Nick Aldis Says His Biggest Goal As SmackDown GM Is To ‘Widen The Gap’ To The Other Brands In WWE
Nick Aldis discusses his goals and mission statement as SmackDown general manager.
Nick Aldis wants to broaden the gap between SmackDown and the other brands of WWE.
On the October 13th episode of SmackDown, Triple H announced that Nick Aldis was the new general manager of the blue brand of WWE. Since then, fans have seen Aldis have a no nonsense approach to his role, with multiple moments where he has asserted his position as the authority figure on SmackDown.
With Aldis’ appointment as general manager, Adam Pearce was appointed the RAW general manager, with a brand vs brand attitude being adapted in storyline between the two authority figures.
While speaking on WWE’s The Bump, Aldis discussed his mission statement as general manager a month after his debut.
“I would say that, coming in as the GM of the number one brand in all of sports entertainment, so there’s a standard to uphold, but certainly I’m not someone to rest on your laurels. I want to continue to grow the brand, continue to evolve the brand, and bring the most exciting matchups possible to the WWE Universe as part of the blue brand, or as part of WWE PLEs, but representing SmackDown. That’s really my mission statement, to bring the absolute money matchups to the WWE Universe at the right time on behalf of the blue brand, the number one brand, SmackDown.” he said
Aldis then noted that he is looking to widen the gap between SmackDown and the other brands of WWE, NXT and RAW.
“I’d say my biggest goal is to widen the gap. SmackDown, we’re number one, and my biggest goal now is to attract the best superstars, particularly as we look ahead to the future. I’ve always got one eye on NXT, always looking at all of the amazing superstars emerging from there and making sure that, I want to widen that gap. I want to make sure that when people talk about the WWE, they talk about SmackDown. That’s my ultimate goal, is for SmackDown to be synonymous with WWE and be synonymous with the industry as a whole.”
Aldis has made sure to avoid having RAW superstars on his brand, going so far as to eject Adam Pearce and Jey Uso during the October 20th edition of SmackDown.
Prior to being announced as general manager of SmackDown, Aldis joined WWE in August as a producer.
Elsewhere in his appearance on The Bump, Aldis explained his suspension of Kevin Owens, noting that it was not nefarious. You can read more here.
