Maven ‘Heard Through The Grapevine’ He Was Considered For The Evolution Faction

Maven says he once heard that he was considered to be a member of Evolution alongside Ric Flair, Triple H, and Randy Orton.

Evolution was the definitive faction of the WWE’s Ruthless Aggression era. Long before the days of Judgment Day, Evolution ran Monday Night RAW from 2003-2005. It has long been known that Mark Jindrak was considered for the group and the spot that eventually went to Dave Bautista (Batista).

Speaking on the latest AMA video on his YouTube channel, Maven said that he “heard through the grapevine” that he was considered for the final spot in the group.

“The wildest creative idea that was thrown my way was obviously the whole Evolution angle. At the beginning of the thought of there being an Evolution, it was always known that it was going to be Ric, Hunter, Randy, and then I think they were flipping back and forth between Dave and Mark Jindrak,” he said. “I heard through the grapevine that they were thinking about putting me in it. I don’t know how true that was. No one from the office ever mentioned anything to me. It was just, you know, just in passing that I would hear it. So whether it was true or whether I was ever in the mix between Ric and Hunter, I don’t know, but you asked if there was anything — any wild creative [ideas] I heard. That’s definitely one of the wildest ones I’ve heard.”

Maven did eventually cross paths with Evolution, defeating Triple H, Batista, Edge, and Gene Snitsky as a part of a Survivor Series team that included Randy Orton, Chris Benoit, and Chris Jericho.

This led to Maven being the WWE Raw GM and facing Triple H for the World Championship on the November 15, 2004 episode of Raw. Read more about Maven’s memories from that night at this link.
