Carmelo Hayes reflects on the October 10th edition of NXT.
The October 10th edition of NXT was one of the most successful episodes of the program in recent memory. The show was stacked with talent and featured legends such as John Cena and The Undertaker appearing on the program.
One man who was featured prominently on the show was Carmelo Hayes, who won a number one contenders match to decide who would face Ilja Dragunov at Halloween Havoc Night 2 for the NXT Championship.
At the end of the show, as Carmelo Hayes was on the backend of a beatdown when The American Badass would make his way to the ring to make the save. After the show went off the air, the two men would do the WWE Hall Of Famer’s signature pose together.
While speaking to Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Hayes noted that the October 10th episode of NXT felt like a fever dream.
“It was like a dream. It was like a fever dream. And like, it’s funny, a lot of people kept, you know, hitting me up the day after and you know, that night. It was like, I almost couldn’t believe that it happened. But there was that moment where you’re like, Look, I’m a pro and I’m gonna be in this moment and I understand the assignment, I remember there was a moment where I was a little kid and I’m like, shoot, this is freaking cool, man. This is really cool. The whole thing with Taker at the end, you know, I didn’t know that was gonna happen. I just didn’t know what to do. I just kind of was like, let me just walk back with him. And he walked me through the whole thing with the pose and everything. I was just sitting there like a kid. And I remember walking back through I was like, that was so freakin cool. He just patted me on the back. But it was a great moment. Just a cool experience. And something I will never forget.”
Hayes would go one on one with Ilja at Halloween Havoc Night 2, where he would unsuccessfully challenger for the championship he previously lost to Dragunov back at NXT No Mercy.
Carmelo would end up losing the title challenge, and was confronted by Trick Williams after the match.
