Josh Alexander Says That Mental Hurdles Are Tougher Than Physical Pain When Dealing With Injuries

Josh Alexander explains his mindset after being forced to give up the IMPACT World Championship due to injury.

On March 24, 2023, Josh Alexander’s historic reign with the IMPACT World Championship came to a screeching hault, as ‘The Walking Weapon’ was forced to relinquish the belt due to injury. Before giving up the title, Alexander was enjoying the longest single reign with the belt in TNA/IMPACT history.

Alexander went on to make a full recovery, as he made his return to the company at the Slammiversary pay-per-view.

In a new interview with Busted Open Radio, Alexander spoke about being forced to give up the title and how the mental hurdles are worse than any type of physical pain.

“I mean, that’s exactly it. Giving up the championship, that means a great deal to me, it meant even more because it was such a historic run, and the story didn’t get to complete the way I always envisioned it ending. Giving it up with my family in the ring, in Canada was super tough. I had never defended that championship in Canada as long as I had it throughout that entire time because of COVID and everything else. By the time we started running Canadian shows, I popped my tricep. I handed it over and the hardest part was going home — any wrestler knows this. You have that uncertainty in your mind whenever you get injured, am I going to be able to come back, when I come back, am I going to be as good if not better? It’s more of a mental hurdle than the physical pain you have to deal with.”

Josh Alexander failed to regain the IMPACT World Championship from Alex Shelley at the Bound For Glory pay-per-view. Fans can check out Fightful’s full report on the show by clicking here.

Alexander recently stated that he found out about his debut for New Japan Pro Wrestling while he was at a splash pad with his kids. Fans can learn more here.
