Tony Khan Explains Why Business Became Personal With WWE A Year Ago While His Mom Was In The Hospital
If you haven’t noticed, Tony Khan has been tweeting and taking shots at WWE throughout the week. Tony got fans talking ahead of Tuesday’s showdown between NXT and AEW Dynamite, and then kept the ball rolling after the ratings were out, using the numbers to take more shots and to promote upcoming shows.
While some have chalked up Tony’s tweets to being part of wrestling and the war between the two companies, others have wondered why Tony has kept at things or gone as far as he has.
On Friday morning, Tony explained that business became personal for him when he had to field phone calls from AEW talent who alleged WWE was contract tampering. The phone calls came while Tony’s mother was in the hospital and fighting for her life.
This weekend marks 1 year since @MayoClinic saved my mom’s life.
During her ordeal many AEW talent came to me alleging WWE tampering, inducing them to break their contracts.
I’ll never forget these phone calls at her side in the hospital; it’s when business became personal for me— Tony Khan (@TonyKhan) October 13, 2023
This is nothing new, I mentioned it last year after she came home. It’s relevant today because she checked in for surgery 1 year ago today.
As I’ve mentioned several times since, @MayoClinic are heroes and thanks to them, her recovery from a very grim outlook has been a miracle.— Tony Khan (@TonyKhan) October 13, 2023
Not that I should be surprised, but the same WWE avatar accounts that spam me every day, no matter what I say or what it’s about, now turning their wrath to Mom recovering from a near death experience, is why I straight hate these people to the bottom of my heart with all my soul https://t.co/9fkmUpKafo

Last year, Tony Khan revealed his mom suffered a stroke between All Out and Grand Slam and then suffered another stroke in October. During that time, he received a phone call from William Regal, who didn’t want AEW to renew his option so he could return to WWE.
