Adam Copeland: Halfway Through My Match With Sheamus, I Was Thinking, ‘This Is Probably My Last WWE Match’
Adam Copeland recalls his match against Sheamus on a recent episode of SmackDown.
Copeland shocked the world of wrestling when he debuted for All Elite Wrestling at the WrestleDream pay-per-view on Sunday, October 1.
Many fans expected Copeland to stay with WWE, as he had been with the company for the vast majority of his entire career.
Instead, Copeland’s final match in WWE came during the August 18 episode of SmackDown, where he faced Sheamus in a near twenty mintue battle.
In a new interview with Sports Illustrated, Copeland revealed that about halfway through his match against Sheamus, he was fairly confident that it was his last match with WWE. Copeland also noted that he also felt like there was a great chance he’d retire after that bout.
“Halfway through the match with Sheamus in Toronto, I was thinking, ‘This is probably my last WWE match. I also started thinking, right then, ‘There is a great chance I retire after this.’”
Copeland went on to say that his sendoff from WWE was the perfect ending.
“The WWE gave me that night, and I’ll hold it with me until I die. I was having so much fun. That was the perfect ending.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Copeland brought up the idea of wrestling in New Japan Pro Wrestling. Fans can learn more here.
Copeland is set to appear on the October 4 episode of AEW Dynamite. Fans can learn more about the show’s lineup by clicking here.
