Here is your fight size update for WWE Friday Night SmackDown and AEW Rampage: Grand Slam on Friday, September 22, 2023.

WWE SmackDown

– With Kit Wilson by his side, Elton Prince’s road to recovery continued.

– WWE United States Champion Rey Mysterio and Santos Escobar faced the Street Profits (Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins). Bobby Lashley attacked Rey Mysterio, but Dawkins hesitated to take advantage of the interference. Rey then caught him in a pin for the win, and Lashley walked away, clearly frustrated.

– Bobby Lashley chewed out the Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) after their loss. He told them to give their suits back and said he would find someone else if they couldn’t pull the trigger.

– John Cena came to the ring and made it clear that he wanted to wrestle. He said he was angry at The Bloodline, and he found a partner in AJ Styles. Styles came to the ring and said if The Bloodline wanted some, they should come get some.

– IYO SKY defended the WWE Women’s Championship against Asuka. Charlotte Flair came out before the match and sat at ringside. Bayley interfered, and Flair took her out. IYO then pinned Asuka with a moonsault.

– Austin Theory confronted the commentary team and yelled at Michael Cole. 

John Cena signed the contract for a match with Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso at WWE Fastlane. Sikoa and Uso took out AJ Styles with a brutal attack backstage. Styles got taken out on a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance.

– John Cena brawled with Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso. They gained the upper hand and laid Cena out.

Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre took credit for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship being cursed.

Cody Rhodes was announced for the September 25 episode of WWE Raw.

– Austin Theory and Grayson Waller defeated Ridge Holland and Butch.

– Carmelo Hayes responded to Bobby Lashley’s threat to find someone else.

– Alba Fyre teased her and Isla Dawn’s return.

– IYO SKY commented on her victory.

– In a SmackDown Exclusive, Damage CTRL (Baykey, IYO SKY, and Dakota Kai) commented on SK’s win over Asuka.

LA Knight was pulled from WWE SmackDown due to a positive COVID test.

AEW Rampage

– Darby Allin and Sting faced Luchasaurus and Christian Cage. Some interference from Nick Wayne helped Allin score the pinfall win over Cage. 

– After Don Callis introduced Sammy Guevara as the newest member of the Don Callis Family, Guevara explained why he turned on Chris Jericho. Chris Jericho tried to fight Guevara and Konosuke Takeshita, but they outnumbered him until Kenny Omega made the save.

The Righteous (Vincent and Dutch) earned a shot at the ROH World Tag Team Championship by defeating The Hardys (Matt and Jeff Hardy), The Kingdom (Matt Taven and Mike Bennett), and Best Friends (Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta).

Mike Santana returned to singles action and defeated “Dirty Bulk” Bronson. Ortiz confronted him after the match.

“Hangman” Adam Page and the Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) defeated Mogul Embassy (Brian Cage, Kaun, and Toa Liona) to win the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship.

– Orange Cassidy, HOOK, and Kris Statlander defeated Matt Menard, Angelo Parker, and Anna Jay.

– The latest edition of QTV highlighted AAA Latin American Champion QT Marshall’s latest win.

– Chris Jericho proposed a tag team match for AEW WrestleDream, where he and Kenny Omega would face the Don Callis Family.

– The Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens and Max Caster) and “Daddy Ass” Billy Gunn beat Dark Order (Evil Uno, Alex Reynolds, and John Silver to retain the AEW World Trios Championship.

– Julia Hart defeated Skye Blue, but Willow Nightingale made the save when Julia attacked Skye after the bell.

– Bullet Club Gold (Jay White, Austin Gunn, Colten Gunn, and Juice Robinson) hyped up White’s match against Andrade El Idolo on AEW Collision.

– Mike Santana commented on his win.

– Vincent set his sights on the ROH World Tag Team Championships.

– Matt Taven warned others to take Neck Health seriously.

 

Rob Van Dam and HOOK will team up on the September 23 episode of AEW Collision.
