Chris Weidman Loses UFC 210 Appeal
Former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman suffered a second round TKO loss to Gegard Mousasi at UFC 210.
Controversy ensued in that bout as Weidman claimed that Mousasi through illegal knees because his hands were occasionally on the ground as the knees where thrown. Referee Dan Miragliotta initially was going to let Weidman recover and fight on, but the NYSAC said the knees were legal and the fighter was unable to continue, thus it was a win for Mousasi.
This controversy is what lead to Weidman filing an appeal in an attempt to get the result of the bout overturned to a no contest.
However, the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) doesn’t agree that the strikes were illegal and the former champion lost his appeal.
“I just got it back in the mail yesterday,” said Weidman on The MMA Hour. “I did not win the appeal. I don’t think it was anything we didn’t expect. I didn’t even read it. My wife was reading it.”
One of the things that Weidman was basing his appeal on was the apparent allowable use of instant replay.
Unfortunately for the fighter, the NYSAC is only allowed to use instant replay in cases in which an injury occurs during the fight.
“I guess when there’s something that happens inside of the Octagon and it has to do with an injury the commission is allowed to look at the replay. I guess, something like that is what it is about. The rules that were explained to us are that there was no replay. If something happens where there is an injury they are allowed to look at it. That’s pretty much what I heard from my wife,” says Weidman.
Now that Weidman has officially lost the appeal, the former middleweight champion is now in the midst of a three fight losing streak.
