On the September 15 episode of WWE SmackDown, WWE United States Champion Rey Mysterio came to the ring with the rest of the LWO (Santos Escobar, Joaquin Wilde, Cruz Del Toro, and Zelina Vega) and discussed his reign as the champion. Mysterio agreed to give Escobar a shot at the gold, but the group was interrupted by Bobby Lashley, Angelo Dawkins, and Montez Ford.
The confrontation led to a tag team match where Dawkins and Ford beat Wilde and Del Toro. Lashley and the Street Profits then left Mysterio and his stablemates lying after the match.
WWE subsequently confirmed that Mysterio and Escobar will face Dawkins and Ford on September 22.
