WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther had a record-breaking performance in the 2023 Royal Rumble match. He entered the match first overall and lasted over an hour and 10 minutes before he was eliminated by the winner, Cody Rhodes. With his performance, Gunther broke the record for the longest time spent in the traditional Royal Rumble match.
Speaking with Wrasslinews at a press junket ahead of WWE Superstar Spectacle, Gunther was asked about potentially challenging for the world title. He pointed out that the Royal Rumble is on the horizon, and he believes he would be one of the favorites in the match.
“Yeah, I mean, that’s the natural progression from now on, I think. But we will see where it goes. I’m the Intercontinental Champion. I’m not planning on losing the title. We’ll see. Rumble’s in a few months. If I’m in there, I think I’m one of the favorites. That would lead to WrestleMania. We’ll have to see,” Gunther said.
