Gemma Jewels Talks Cody Rhodes’ WWE Return, Feeling Devastated By His WrestleMania 39 Loss

Gemma Jewels gives her thoughts on Cody Rhodes losing to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39.

Gemma Jewels, a Nightmare Factory trainee, was just as surprised as the rest of the wrestling world when Cody Rhodes left AEW to return to WWE in 2022.

In a Fightful Select interview with Stephen Jensen, Jewels gave her thoughts on Cody Rhodes taking a chance on himself and leaving the company he started to chase his original dream in wrestling.

“I honestly didn’t believe it, along with anybody else, I really didn’t. It’s not like he was going to tell anybody. They kind of just quietly resigned from AEW, both him and Brandi. I mean, it could only have meant one thing, but I still was like, I just don’t see that happening. Sure enough, the dirt sheets and everybody was right, and I freaked out watching WrestleMania, and seeing that that was incredible. To just see what he was able to do to make them take him seriously, and what he wanted to do, and his character. For him to go back and have that main event spot. I’m so proud of him and happy for him. He deserves it,” she said.

Like many, Jewels believed Cody Rhodes would finish his story when he wrestled Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 in the main event. While she admits she was devastated seeing him lose, she commends WWE for being able to get so much mileage out of the storyline with Roman Reigns and his family.

“I think we were all devastated,” she said about the finish to WrestleMania 39. “That felt like such a punch to the gut. I didn’t know if nobody knew if The Bloodline storyline could get bigger than that but I gotta give it to WWE. It did, for sure. It’s got people thinking and tuning in still. I kind of am more understanding as to why they did it, but it’s going to be that much better when he does win it. so fingers crossed. Maybe it’ll be [WrestleMania 40] I don’t know. I try not to look too much into the rumors. I like to be surprised.”
