Zilla Fatu looks back on his in-ring debut.

Zilla Fatu, the son of Umaga, wrestled in his first official match at Reality of Wrestling Summer of Champions show. He scored the victory by using his father’s signature Samoan Spike. 

Speaking on The Be Someone Podcast, Fatu looked back on the match and described how Shelton Benjamin and Carlito, who were backstage, gave him advice before he stepped into the ring.

“Shelton, he played a big role too in it. Shelton was like, ‘Just take your time, Uce. Don’t go out there and try to look for the next spot. Don’t go out there and try to do too much. Just feel the crowd’s energy, and just go from there.’ Carlito, he was more like ‘Don’t overthink the next move.’ Because there’s an art to wrestling, y’all. Carlito, he was like, ‘Don’t overthink your next step. Just let it flow, feel the crowd, feel the energy, and go from there.’ That’s what happened,” Fatu said.

Fatu also noted that he didn’t feel a spiritual connection with his father at first, but he reconnected with Umaga right before he hit the Samoan Spike. He recalled how he looked up before he hit the move, and he had not planned that spot.

“I felt [a spiritual connection] right before I did the Samoan Spike. If you watched it, I looked up, and that wasn’t planned. I didn’t have that in mind. I just did it. Zilla just came out, and that happened. I didn’t feel his spirit until right before the Samoan Spike. It just felt good. It felt like I reconnected with him,” Fatu said.
