Gunther To Defend Intercontinental Championship On 9/4 WWE Raw, Tornado Tag Match Also Announced

Gable will get another shot at Gunther on the September 4, 2023 episode of WWE Raw.

The match was first announced by Gunther during a promo on the August 28 episode of Raw. In the promo, Gunther also laughed at the praise that Gable is receiving for defeating him via count out on the August 21 episode of Raw.

Gable then came to the ring and said it will only take him three seconds to defeat Gunther next Monday, referencing the amount of seconds that a pinfall takes.

The match on September 4, 2023 will be the third singles between Gunther and Gable. The first match, which took place on the July 31 episode of Raw, was won by Gunther. As previously referenced, the second match, which took place the August 21 episode of Raw, was won by Gable after ‘The Ring General’ was counted out of the bout.

Later in the show, WWE announced that Drew McIntyre and Matt Riddle will face the Viking Raiders (Erik and Ivar) in a Tornado Tag Team Match. The two teams have been feuding in recent weeks, as McIntyre and Riddle have gradually formed a partnership.

McIntyre and Riddle were at ringside on the August 28 episode, where the Viking Raiders faced The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods). McIntyre snapped when Ivar slammed Kingston into him and Riddle. McIntyre then threw chairs, and one of them hit Woods. The Viking Raiders took advantage of the situation by pinning Kingston.

McIntyre subsequently made it clear that he wanted to face Erik and Ivar, and WWE confirmed the tag team match.

The announced card for the September 4 episode of WWE Raw is below.

  • WWE Intercontinental Championship: Gunther (c) vs. Chad Gable
  • Tornado Tag Team Match: Drew McIntyre & Matt Riddle vs. The Viking Raiders (Erik & Ivar)
