Sandman Thought ECW Zombie Was A Rib, ‘Vince McMahon Saw Me As A Segment Guy, Not A Match Guy’

The Sandman is one of the most legendary figures in ECW with fans getting behind his “Enter Sandman” and beer drinking entrance.

When WWE relaunched the ECW brand on Sci-Fi on June 13, 2006, The Sandman was part of the show, and Vince McMahon saw used him how he saw fit.

In an infamous segment, The Zombie came out to represent Sci-Fi. He was attacked by The Sandman in a segment that will never be forgotten.

“I thought it was a rib,” Sandman said during a K&S Virtual Signing. “I thought they were ribbing me, because it was the first night that we were going on Sci-Fi, and  it’s a big building. I just come around one of the corners or something and they got they got a zombie there and they had an alien, like a little dude with a green suit on and big eyes.  I’m like, ‘What a disgrace. This is what I’ve turned my career into.’ I’m like, well, at least I’m not gonna get hurt today you know? Vince saw me as [best used in segments.] He never saw me as a match guy, it’s the best way to use me, too. Yeah, it’s downhill after that.”

Sandman remained in WWE as part of the ECW brand until September 2007 when he was released.

Elsewhere during the signing, Sandman said he hasn’t been contacted by AEW. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
