Alex Shelley And Zack Sabre Jr. Retain Their Respective Championships | IMPACT x ROH Recap

Here is your fight size update following IMPACT and ROH Wrestling on Thursday, August 24, 2023. 

Below are highlights from both Thursday night wrestling shows.

IMPACT Wrestling

– In the main event of IMPACT, Alex Shelley defeated Brian Myers to retain his IMPACT World Title. After the match, all hell broke loose between the competitors of the 8-Man Tag at Emergence, with Lio Rush again getting the jump on Chris Sabin backstage while the other six competitors brawled in the ring. 

– Speaking of Chris Sabin, he was able to pick up a victory over Samuray Del Sol, formerly WWE’s Kalisto. 

– Deaner scored a victory over Laredo Kid and afterward issued a challenge to Eric Young for a No DQ Match at IMPACT Emergence. 

-Joe Hendry & Yuya Uemura intend on beginning their journey as a tag team during the Countdown to Emergence. No match was made official. 

– Backstage, Jake Something issued a vow to beat the reigning IWGP World Heavyweight Champion SANADA at IMPACT Emergence.

– Josh Alexander was also featured in a backstage promo where he promised to get back to the World Championship picture. 

– PCO continues his crusade looking for Bully Ray

– The final installment of Crazzy Steve and Tom Hannifan’s sit-down interview aired. Steve mentioned in this interview that he was weary of being taken advantage of before declaring that he would become the plague if he failed to become the antidote to evil. Before attacking the security officers, Steve grabbed Hannifan’s hands and told him to inform the world that he felt comfortable with violence. 

– This week’s episode was dedicated to the memory of Terry Funk. Also, due to the unfortunate passing of Bray Wyatt, IMPACT did not live tweet during the event.

Ring of Honor 

– In the main event of Ring of Honor this week, Zack Sabre Jr. retained his NJPW World TV Title over Christopher Daniels. 

– Ring of Honor World Champion Claudio Castagnoli made a rare Ring of Honor TV appearance this week and defeated Ryan Nemeth. 

– Athena & Billie Starkz successfully defeated The Renegades but bickered after Starkz did not get as aggressive as Athena wanted her to during the post-match beat-down. 

– Two title matches are made for next week’s episode including a Ring of Honor World Six-Man Tag Team Championship match. 

– Lexy Nair spoke with Stokely Hathaway backstage this week.

-Tony Nese & “Smart” Mark Sterling were interviewed by Lexy Nair backstage. Sterling & Nese complained about Jerry Lynn interrupting group training last week.

– Matt Sydal, Leyla Hirsch, Dark Order, Kiera Hogan, and Blake Christian all picked up victories on this week’s episode of Ring of Honor. 

– The ROH Tag Team Championship will be on the line at Wembley Stadium at AEW All In. Check out the full card here.
