Terry Funk Passes Away At Age 79
Terry Funk has sadly passed away at the age of 79.
The news was first shared by Terry’s daughter, Brandee, via Mick Foley and Ric Flair on social media.
Funk is considered by many to be one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, with many of today’s performers citing him as the inspiration for them to get into the business. Throughout his 50+ year career in the wrestling industry, Funk wrestled for WWE, WCW, NWA, ECW, All Japan Pro Wrestling, MLW, New Japan Pro Wrestling, Jim Crockett Promotions, TNA, and a number of top independent promotions.
Furthermore, Funk held prestigious championships such as the ECW World Heavyweight Championship, the ECW Television Championship, the WCW United States Championship, the WCW Hardcore Championship, and the WWF Tag Team Championships throughout his tenure in wrestling.
Fans and people within the industry often praised Funk for being versatile and charismatic, and also for being fantastic on the microphone and in the ring. Funk was able to work a number of styles inside of the ring.
Funk’s last match occurred on September 23, 2017, where he teamed with the Rock N’ Roll Express (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) to take on the trio of Brian Christopher, Doug Gilbert & Jerry Lawler.
