CM Punk says Darby Allin is the Connor Bedard of AEW, meaning he has the potential to be a franchise player.
Punk and Allin have been connected since 2021, when the former WWE Champion faced Allin in his AEW in-ring debut at AEW All Out 2021. They have teamed up two times since that bout, and both stars have been featured on AEW Collision in recent weeks.
Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Punk, a known Chicago Blackhawks fan, was asked to name the Conor Bedard of the AEW locker room. Bedard, the top pick in the NHL Draft, is viewed a potential cornerstone of the franchise. Punk pointed to Allin and praised the former TNT Champion.
“It’s Darby Allin,” says Punk. “He’s still fairly young, and he always makes chicken salad out of chicken sh–. He’s got that ‘It Factor’, and he’s really getting comfortable. We had a whole big promo segment a few weeks ago [on Collision], and I thought he shined. That made me super proud. He has a ton to offer, as long as he doesn’t kill himself jumping over his house in a f—— monster truck or something like that,” Punk said.
Punk and Allin will both compete at AEW All In on August 27. Allin and Sting will face Swerve Strickland and AR Fox in a Coffin Match, while Punk will defend the “real” AEW World Championship against Samoa Joe.
