Brian Gewirtz Recalls Triple H’s Reaction To The Rock Calling CM Punk In A Dark Segment

In February 2017, The Rock was at Staples Center (Crypto Arena) to film “Fighting With My Family” with the help of WWE.

The filming took place after an episode of WWE Raw, and fans chanted “CM Punk” as the filming involved Zelina Vega playing Punk’s wife AJ Lee.

Speaking on The Ringer’s Cheap Heat podcast, former WWE writer and The Rock’s business partner at Seven Bucks Productions Brian Gewirtz recalled the segment and Triple H’s reaction.

“We were shooting ‘Fighting With My Family’ at Staples Center. The Rock was in the ring and they were chanting ‘CM Punk.’ Rock doesn’t know what’s going on with the whole Punk-WWE backstage stuff, and he pulls out his phone and is like, ‘What if I called CM Punk right now?’ Triple H turned to me back at Gorilla and was like, ‘someone want to remind him we’re in a fucking lawsuit with this guy?’ Punk didn’t answer, he was doing something else at the time, so it didn’t really matter. Triple H said it tongue in cheek, not legitimately angry,” said Gewirtz.

Rock ended up leaving a voicemail to Punk.

Punk and WWE were in a lawsuit stemming from Punk’s exit from the company, his comments on Colt Cabana’s podcast, and WWE doctor Christopher Amann filing a defamation lawsuit based on those comments.

Elsewhere during the interview, Gewirtz commented on The Rock potentially returning to WWE. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
