Alex Garcia Wanted Better Opponent For UFC Fight Night: Oklahoma City
Alex Garcia is going to be battling fellow welterweight Tim Means on the main card of this Sunday Night’s UFC Fight Night: Oklahoma City event.
While Garcia has respect for his opponent, the fighter wishes the UFC offered him someone better for him to fight.
“I am a little disappointed in this way,” Garcia told MMA Junkie Radio. “Not because of Tim Means, just because I’m coming from a win, from a great KO. I want to be in the top 10, top 15. Like I said in the interview after my fight, no disrespect toward Tim Means, but I want to move forward. I’m still going to move forward with him when I fight him. I wanted somebody in the top 10, top 15. I want to challenge myself. The bigger the challenge, the bigger the reward afterward.”
Garcia has already won four of six fights under the UFC banner, last defeating Mike Pyle by knockout at UFC 207.
It has also been six-plus months since Garcia last competed and the fighter is looking for a quicker turnaround this time.
“Now I’ve got to kick ass on June 25,” Garcia said. “And hopefully next time there’ll be a shorter waiting time (between fights).”
UFC Fight Night: Oklahoma City takes place on Sunday, June 25 from the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma with Michael Chiesa and Kevin Lee headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
