Even Charlotte Doesn’t Know Whether She’s Working Babyface Or Heel On SmackDown
Since five-time Raw Women's Champion Charlotte debuted on SmackDown, her character has been somewhat inconsistent.
She showed up as the same heel she was on Raw, demanding a Title match against Champion Naomi because she was entitled to one. But then a faction clumsily called "The Welcoming Committee," led by Natalya, Carmella and Tamina made her a target, beating her down backstage and engendering sympathy for her. She sided with Becky Lynch, the purest babyface in WWE, but kept reminding anyone who would listen that she was still a Flair, and therefore couldn't be trusted.
So which is it? Is she still a heel like she's been for well over a year, or has she turned babyface?
Well, as it turns out, Charlotte doesn't seem to know, herself.
As she told ESPN, when they asked if she preferred working on the red brand or the blue:
"I think that's trying to figure out, 'Am I a good guy, or am I a bad guy? Am I still the dirtiest player in the game, or have I come to my senses and Becky Lynch has rubbed off on me?' The girls that I'm working with are absolutely amazing. It's not whether I prefer Raw or SmackDown; it's more, 'What's my role? Who's Charlotte?' I think I'm still trying to figure out."
We'll keep trying to figure it out right along with her.
