John Cena Says His First WWE Contract Was For $12,000 A Year
John Cena ended up being one of the top drawing acts in WWE history as the face of WWE for over a decade.
Cena remains one of the biggest stars in WWE history, but he started in Ohio Valley Wrestling like so many other stars in the 2000s.
Speaking with Kevin Hart on Hart To Heart, Cena recalled signing with WWE in 2000.
“My first contract with WWE was $12,000 a year. I quit my job the day I was signed. I think my rent was $1,000 a month. So all my money is now rent. When I told my mom, she’s like, ‘I hope you’re okay.’ My dad, I could have told him any other position and he would have been like, ‘Yeah, whatever,’ but I told him I got a job with WWE. ‘Oh, my son. This is unreal. It’s going to great. I can’t believe it.’ Still, to this day, he’s extremely proud,” said Cena.
Cena would go on to make millions in WWE and transition to Hollywood as a movie star.
Cena returning to WWE TV at WWE Money in the Bank, making a surprise appearance to encourage WWE to bring WrestleMania to London.
