Gable Steveson Intends To Use Final Year Of NCAA Eligibility

Gable Steveson could be returning to the collegiate mats.

Steveson confirmed with FloWrestling that he wants to return to NCAA competition next year. Steveson still has one year of eligibility left due to 2021 season not counting towards eligibility coming out COVID.

The report notes that Steveson still has to sort out scheduling details with the WWE before his return is official.

Steveson won national titles at heavyweight for the Minnesota Golden Gophers in 2021 and 2022.

In May 2022, Gophers wrestling coach Brandon Eggum said that Steveson was interested in returning if they could make things work with WWE.

Steveson has been approved by WWE to compete in upcoming freestyle tournaments. He hopes to compete in the 2024 Olympics, but would need WWE approval. He won a 2020 Olympic Gold Medal in freestyle wrestling.

It is unknown when Steveson will officially make his in-ring WWE debut. He was drafted to WWE Raw in the 2021 WWE Draft after being signed in September 2021. In October 2022, Steveson said he was training at the WWE Performance Center after stepping away to undergo an ablation to treat Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome.
