Gunther comments on potentially breaking The Honky Tonk Man’s record.
Gunther won the WWE Intercontinental Championship on the June 10, 2022, episode of WWE SmackDown. He has defeated stars like Sheamus and Rey Mysterio throughout his dominant reign, which currently spans 371 days. In March, Gunther became the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion since The Honky Tonk Man. The legemnd holds the record for the longest reign at 454 days. Gunther isn’t far from hitting that mark, and fans continue to wonder whether he’ll break the record.
Speaking with Rick Ucchino on Cincy 3:60, Gunther was asked to describe what breaking the Honky Tonk Man’s record would mean to him. He stated that it would be a big accomplishment, but he’s focused on what’s right in front of him.
“It would be, obviously, a great accomplishment and maybe the biggest accomplishment of my career, to that date. But also, there’s still some time to go, and I try to focus on what’s right in front of me and make the best out of that situation. I don’t try to get caught up in the future with what ifs and what could happen, even though it’s not that far away. I think once it’s all said and done, I’ll be able to lean back and enjoy it a little bit. It would be very rewarding and a big accomplishment,” Gunther said.
