Mike Knox Says Winning NWA Crockett Cup Might Be The Biggest Accomplishment Of His Career

Mike Knox is still processing his Crockett Cup victory.

On June 4, Knox and Trevor Murdoch defeated Blunt Force Trauma (Damage and Carnage) in the finals of the NWA Crockett Cup Tag Team Tournament. In doing so, they joined the prestigious group of Crockett Cup winners, which includes The Road Warriors (Hawk and Animal) and The Briscoe Brothers (Jay and Mark Briscoe).

Speaking about their victory on NWA Extra, Knox said that this might be the biggest accomplishment of his career.

“I used to watch the Crockett cup when I was a kid. This might be the biggest accomplishment that I’ve had in my career. Not just since I’ve been in NWA, you know what I mean? This is pretty special for me, and it’s really special to get to do with Trevor too. Like I said, anything with having, you got to earn it. We didn’t start off as best friends. You earn that over time. I think we’re molding into something pretty freakin cool, man,” he said.

Murdoch would interject, praising his tag team partner and saying that he would have been crazy not to become friends with Knox, even if they did once compete over the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship.

“Not to mention, I haven’t had anybody in the NWA hit me as hard as Knoxy. I’d rather him be on my side than the one I’m squaring off against. I’ll say this about Knoxy, man, you know, don’t get me wrong, he’s a space cadet at times in real life, God love him, but when the bell rings, I got a maniac on my hands. He’s got one one mode and that’s kill. You know what I mean? I know that’s a crazy word, but watch Knoxy step into the ring, he’s a monster. He eats up everybody. I would be an idiot not to befriend this man and say, ‘Hey, let’s go dominate the world of tag team wrestling and show everybody what we’ve been talking about.’ We know who we are and we still got a lot to prove. We’ve got a lot of people that have talked a lot of shit about us over the years and we’re out there to prove all of them that they were wrong. So far, so good, because we’ve run over everybody,” he said.

Knox would conclude by saying that his head is still spinning thinking about the company he and Murdoch joined by winning the tournament.

“My head was trying to wrap around the names on that trophy that we’re next to now, and you want to talk about flashing back to a childhood of incredible names that over the years, they’re heroes of yours as children. Then you grow up and you try to follow them and you end up having these tales woven together with — You knew Harley. I knew Dusty, and he’s the one that helped me get up to TV and he’s on there. Sting. Whenever I was over at the other company working with the bikers, we had a run with Sting. He said some very sweet things about me to management over there. — The names on that trophy, they mean something to me,” he said.

NWA is set to air a special Crockett Cup replay episode this evening which will feature some of the top moments from the tournament weekend. It can be seen on their YouTube channel.
