Anthony Bowens: I Want LGBTQ+ Representation To Be Done The Right Way, There’s A Delicacy To It

Anthony Bowens believes wrestling companies should work towards better LGBTQ+ representation, and he’s trying to figure out the right way he can present it.

Bowens has risen to prominence in AEW as half of The Acclaimed alongside Max Caster. The duo rose to the top of AEW’s tag team division in 2022, as they won the AEW World Tag Team Championship. In doing so, Bowens became AEW’s first Black gay male champion. Moving forward, Bowens remains determined to use his platform to make a difference in the way the LGBTQ+ community is represented in wrestling.

Speaking with Haley for Nerds & Beyond, Bowens discussed his mission to be a part of wrestling becoming more progressive and inclusive. For him, he noted that he’s trying to figure out how to present it the right away.

“I think companies should be working towards better. For me, I’d want to present it the right way, considering how things were presented in the past which was presented terribly. So I’m actively trying to figure out what would be a good story to tell; what would be the right way to go. Because, again, if we are going to do it the right way, we’ve got to make sure that we are doing it the right way. It will be under a microscope because people want to see how this goes, how it plays out, how the story’s written. So there’s a delicacy to it too. It hasn’t really been done correctly before. So that’s something that I would like to probably do in the future,” Bowens said.

Bowens recently modeled for Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty 2023 Pride Collection. More information is available here.
