Play-by-Play

(#3) Kai Kara-France vs. (#7) Amir Albazi

Round One – Not much going on here early as both competitors looks to sniff each other out. Albazi lands a right hook and clinches but Kara-France spins himself off the fence and circles back to the center of the octagon. Albazi lands a low kick, Kara-France returns the favor and follows it up with a right hook that stuns Albazi. A leg kick lands for Kara-France, Albazi does the same, and the horn sounds to end the opening frame.

Round Two – Albazi lands a 1-2 to open the action in round number two. Albazi lands a low kick and pops the jab in behind. Kara-France lands a lead leg kick, Albazi clinches, but Kara-France forces the break. Albazi wallops Kara-France with a left hook and Kara-France certainly looks like he felt the power behind that one. Albazi continues the forward pressure and is really turning up the heat on the former title challenger now. Albazi lands a 1-2, then a left hook, and an uppercut at the buzzer, and this one is headed to round number three.

Round Three – Albazi dives in for a takedown but Kara-France stuffs the attempt and remains upright for the moment. Albazi continues the pressure and clinches and trips Kara-France to the mat with a secured takedown. Albazi lands a few shots from top control to open up Kara-France, and secures the body triangle. Albazi looks for a choke, Kara-France defends well and scrambles to end up on top. Kara-France lands a few shots from the top but runs out of time as the horn sounds, and this one is headed to the main event rounds.

Round Four – Albazi sprints forward but walks into a right hook from Kara-France, who follows it up with a jab. Kara-France spins out of a clinch attempt from Albazi, and catches a kick, which allows him to secure the takedown on Albazi. Kara-France lands a couple shots from the top, Albazi scrambles and ends up back on his feet as he walks into a right hook from Kara-France at the buzzer, and this one is headed to the fifth and final round.

Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Kara-France. 39-37 to Albazi after four rounds.

Round Five – Kara-France walks forward, perhaps thinking he may need a finish to secure the victory here. Kara-France lands a right hook, Albazi looks hurt and dives in for a takedown and gets this one to the mat. Kara-France scrambles and quickly gets back up to his feet but Albazi continues the pressure and has the former title challenger clinched against the fence. Kara-France breaks out of Albazi’s clutches and pops the jab. Albazi looks tired, Kara-France lands a 1-2, then a low kick, and another jab, but the horn sounds and this one is headed to the judge’s scorecards.

Alex Caceres vs. Daniel Pineda

Round One – Pineda opens the action with a pair of low kicks. Pineda dives in for a takedown, Caceres stuffs the attempt and remains upright. Pineda lands another low kick then dives right back in for another takedown but Caceres reverses momentum and ends up on top. Caceres lets Pineda back up but eats a 1-2 from Pineda. Caceres is tripped to the mat by Pineda, who looks for an armbar but Caceres somehow slips out of danger for the moment. Caceres scrambles back to his feet and rips a right hook to the body, then wallops Pineda with a left hook but Pineda walks through it and secures a takedown at the buzzer, which ends an extremely eventful opening frame.

Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Caceres.

Round Two – Pineda lands a right hook to start. Caceres lands a bevy of shots, then stuffs another takedown attempt from Pineda. Caceres remains upright and cracks Pineda with a 1-2 but ends up on top after a successful takedown. Caceres looks for a triangle choke but uses it to end up with top control. Pineda looks for a kimura but ends up right back on top and he begins hammering down with some ground and pound until the horn, and this one is headed to the third and final round.

Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Pineda. 19-19 overall after two rounds.

Round Three – Caceres hurts Pineda with a side kick to the body and ‘Bruce Leeroy’ is relentless on the feet. Caceres rips a right hook to the body and Pineda is visibly shaken up by all these blows to the body. Caceres continues to light up his opposition with punches and kicks to the body, Pineda trips Caceres, but Caceres is right back up and looks for the back but Pineda scrambles out of danger for the time being. Caceres with a 1-2 to the body but Pineda cracks him with a right hook and Caceres stumbles to a knee but the buzzer sounds to end a wild fight, that’s now headed to the judge’s scorecards!

Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Caceres. 29-28 to Caceres overall.

Jim Miller vs. Jesse Butler

Round One – Miller rushes forward right off the bat and clobbers Butler with an uppercut and Butler is out! Jim Miller continues to make history inside of the octagon!

Tim Elliott vs. Victor Altamirano

Round One – Altamirano lands a pair of heavy leg kicks to open the action. Elliott dives in and secures a takedown early. Elliott lands a few shots of ground and pound from half guard but nothing of consequence thus far. Altamirano throws some heat from his back and looks for an armbar but Elliott defends well and makes Altamirano pay with a pair of elbows at the buzzer and this one is headed to round number two.

Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Elliott.

Round Two – Altamirano lands a 1-2 to start. Elliott latches onto Altamirano and drags him right back down to the mat as he did early in the opening frame. Altamirano quickly scrambles back to his feet and trips Elliott down for a takedown of his own. Altamirano lands a few heavy shots from the top but Elliott does a nice job of scrambling back to his feet. Elliott trips Altamirano down to the mat and quickly gains side control. Altamirano does a great job off his back and evades any ground and pound attempt from Elliott and the buzzer sounds to end round number two.

Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Elliott. 20-18 to Elliott overall.

Round Three – Altamirano ducks under a right hook from Elliott and lands a knee to the body. Elliott finds a home for the right hook this time and wallops Altamirano. Elliott secures yet another takedown and has Altamirano on his back with plenty of time to work. Elliott doesn’t do much damage as of now from the top but does a nice job of controlling this one and seemingly being moments away from a decision victory. Altamirano knows he needs a hail mary here and powers back to his feet and lands a low kick, but Elliott drags him right back down to the mat and the horn sounds to send this one to the judge’s scorecards.

Karine Silva vs. Ketlen Souza

Round One – Silva lights up Souza with a bevy of leg kicks here early. Silva trips Souza down to the mat and immediately starts firing down heavy shots from the tip, then sitches in a kneebar, and Souza is forced to tap out! What a performance from Karine Silva!

Result: Karine Silva def. Ketlen Souza via submission (kneebar) (1:45, R1)

Abubakar Nurmagomedov vs. Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos

Round One – Zaleski is on the offensive early on in this one and pushes the pace right from the opening bell. A 1-2 lands for the Brazilian as Nurmagomedov comes back with a right hook. Nurmagomedov shoves Zaleski to the fence and lands a step-in knee to the body followed by a lashing elbow across the forehead. Nurmagomedov is urgent for the takedown but Zaleski defends well for the time-being. Zaleski lands a knee to the body and forces the break but Nurmagomedov reengages the clinch. The referee forces a break after a lull in the action and Zaleski clobbers Nurmagomedov with a 1-2 followed by a knee to the body at the horn which ends the opening frame.

Round Two – Zaleski opens round number two with a low kick. Zaleski is relentless with the leg kicks early and goes back to the well early and often here in the middle frame. Nurmagomedov clinches and shoves Zaleski against the cage. Nurmagomedov isn’t doing much to gain any points inside of the clinch and Zaleski finally breaks off and circles back to the center of the octagon. Zaleski peppers in the jab, Nurmagomedov clinches once again and trips Zaleski down to the mat as the buzzer sounds to send this one to round number three.

Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Zaleski. 20-18 to Zaleski after two rounds.

Round Three – Zaleksi goes right back to the low kicks to open the final frame. The leg kicks continue to pile up here late for the Brazilian contender and Nurmagomedov is forced to latch onto Zaleski with another clinch but Zaleski spins off the cage and quickly gets out of Nurmagomedov’s clasp. Nurmagomedov dives in for the takedown but Zaleski shoves him back and lands a pair of knees directly onto his Russian counterpart’s chin. Nurmagomedov shoots for another takedown but is once again sent back by Zaleski, who actually latches on for a choke but Nurmagomedov escapes. Nurmagomedov looks for the back while back on the feet, Zaleski forces Nurmagomedov off of him and a wild exchange doesn’t see anything land at the horn and this one is headed to the judge’s scorecards.
