AEW Dynamite (5/17/23) Results: Roderick Strong vs. Chris Jericho, Info On AEW Collision, More

AEW Dynamite (5/17)

  • Falls Count Anywhere: Chris Jericho vs. Roderick Strong

– Wardlow comes out. He calls out Christian Cage. Cage comes out to confront Wardlow. He utilized Luchasaurus and the numbers advantage to hit a low blow on the TNT champion. Christian sent Luchasaurus to get a ladder. Luchasaurus chokeslams Wardlow through a ladder, and Christian also hits the Killswitch on the ladder. 

Orange Cassidy & Darby Allin vs. Big Bill & Lee Moriarty

Early on, the heels cut off the ring and isolated Cassidy. The referee kept missing tags and forcing Darby back to the apron. Eventually, the babyfaces fire up. They hit stereo suicide dives. They try to keep control but eventually, Big Bill uses his size to keep the advantage. The babyfaces fire up again The end of the match came when Allin hit a Coffin Drop on Moriarty while Cassidy hit Bill with the Orange Punch. Darby would get the victory with a headlock tape over has a message to Maxwell Jacob Freeman. 

Winners: Orange Cassidy & Darby Allin. 

– Wardlow is being checked on in the trainer’s room. Arn Anderson comes to check on him. Wardlow challenges Christian Cage to a Ladder Match for the TNT Championship at Double or Nothing 

– The Young Bucks arrive in the arena but get attacked by The Blackpool Combat Club in the parking lot. 

– Orange Cassidy tells Renee Paquette that he will take on all challengers, but he’s tired. 

Sammy Guevara vs. Exodus Prime 

Sammy immediately hits a flying knee, followed by the GTH for the victory. 

Winner: Sammy Guevara 

– Guevara cuts a promo saying Texas has seen him grow up and his heart tells him he will be champion at Double or Nothing. 

– A vignette hypes up the AEW Double or Nothing main event.

– Tony Schiavone is prepared to interview Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal. 

– Lethal and Jarrett get jumped by FTR. FTR isolate Jeff Jarrett in the ring, but Karen Jarrett is behind them and delivers a low blow to Cash Wheeler. Jeff Jarrett hits the Stroke on Dax. FTR gets hit with a double guitar shot by Lethal and Jarrett. The heels celebrate. 

– Darby Allin is talking about the main event of AEW Double or Nothing. Sammy Guevara interrupts and says he’s not going to lay down for anybody at the pay-per-view. However, they both feel that somebody needs to beat Maxwell Jacob Friedman. 

The Outcasts (Toni Storm & Ruby Soho w/ Saraya) vs. Dr. Britt Baker DMD & Hikaru Shida

Shida and Baker acquire the upper hand, but The Outcasts take influence. Baker and Soho swing the pace back in their favor. Saraya interferes, and Storm knocks Baker to the floor with a hip attack. Saraya attacks Baker at ringside. Storm and Soho isolate Baker and gang up on her. Shida tags in and involves influence with a flurry of offense. Shida nets a near fall with the Falcon Arrow—Baker tags in and suplexes Soho. Shida hits Soho with a Meteora. Saraya distracts Baker, and Storm blinds her with green spray paint. Soho pins Baker with the Storm Zero.

Orange Cassidy is informed that 20 people decided to tell Tony Khan that they want an opportunity at his title. Cassidy comes up with a Blackjack Battle Royal idea for Double or Nothing where he will defend his title in a battle royal. 

Tony Khan announces that most of the early episodes of AEW Collision take place in Canada. Next week, the location for the debut episode will be announced.

Falls Count Anywhere: Chris Jericho vs. Roderick Strong

Jericho and Strong fought it out in a brutal match. They traded stiff chops and punches until one of them finally got their opponent in the ring. They then began brawling around ringside, exchanging blows until Jericho trapped Strong in Walls of Jericho. Strong escaped, but Jericho followed him down with a powerful suplex. The two stars continued fighting in a stairwell. Strong blinds Jericho with ice cream as they brawl in the concessions area. The fight ends up outside of the building. Adam Cole shows up and attacks Jericho. Cole and Strong attack Jericho and pins him after a flying knee.

Winner: Roderick Strong

RUSH vs. “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry

RUSH throws Perry out of the ring before repeatedly throwing him around the ringside area into the barricade. Perry is then busted wide open. RUSH uses a chair outside the ring while Jose distracts the official. Back inside the ring, RUSH delivers a series of headbutts in the corner.

Perry delivers a series of chops only to encounter, unexpectedly, a jumping knee, but Perry nails RUSH  with a dropkick. The two men then eventually on the top turnbuckle, trading blows Perry connects with a hurricanrana off the ropes. Perry eventually gets RUSH in the Snare Trap, but RUSH makes it to the ropes. Perry would end up getting the win by hitting an unexpected roll-up and using the tights for leverage. 

Winner: “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry

– After the match, LFI attacks Perry. Darby Allin and Sammy Guevara come out to make the save. MJF watches on as all three men seemingly get along ahead of their championship match, and angrily smacks a microphone out of Renee Paquette’s hands.

Toni Storm challenges Jamie Hayter for the Women’s World Championship at Double or Nothing. 

Ricky Starks vs. Jay White 

Starks and White start the match by brawling. They fight on the outside, with White being driven into a barricade. Eventually, the match goes into the ring.

They would eventually begin exchanging punches. Starks then hits a series of elbow strikes, but White counters with a swinging neckbreaker. Starks nearly catches White with a roll-up when reversing the Blade Runner. White gouges Starks’ eyes. Robinson tries to interfere, and Starks hits him with a chair. Starks hits White with a chair and gets disqualified.

Winner: Jay White by DQ

– Don Callis comes to the ring. He says that he was the victim in the situation with Kenny. He takes credit for everything that has happened to Kenny in recent years. Kenny comes out. Security prevents him from getting to Don. Out comes The BCC. They lay out Kenny. 

The Young Bucks come to Kenny’s side. Hangman Page returns and The Elite officially reunites. They take out the BCC and isolate Wheeler with a BTE Trigger and Buckshot Lariat. Page announces that it will be Anarchy in the Arena at Double or Nothing.
