DC Says Feud With Jon Jones Better Than Liddell & Ortiz

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier is preparing to defend the gold against former champion Jon Jones in a rematch at UFC 214.

Cormier has been feuding with Jones for years and according to the champion, their rivalry is better than the Chuck Liddell/Tito Ortiz feud.

“Let’s forget about the old guys,” Cormier said on The Herd. “The old guys were good, they were great. (But) you’re watching the two best fighters in the light heavyweight division’s history because nobody in the past can beat Jon or I. So you’re watching the two best. It’s the same with basketball and everything. We’ve got to let go of our childhood and understand that people can be better. And Jon and I are better than the Chuck Liddells and the Tito Ortizes have ever been. We’re more skilled, the game changes. And I watch you every morning make this case for LeBron James. LeBron James is a better basketball player than Michael Jordan.”

The two clashed the first time at UFC 182 and on that night, it was Jones who walked away with a decision victory.

DC also reiterated in the interview on The Herd that with USADA around the former champion is going to be clean when he fights at UFC 214.

“I think he has to (be clean) this time, with USADA and everything,” Cormier said. “And you hear guys like Alexander Gustafsson now saying he believes Jon was enhanced throughout his career. But before, we had no sanctioning body like USADA. USADA, now, is on top of all that.”

UFC 214 takes place on Saturday, July 29 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California with Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
