Maia Would Like Title Shot To Come This October
Demian Maia was told by UFC President Dana White after his victory at UFC 211 that a shot at the UFC Welterweight Title would be next for him.
When the title shot does come to fruition, the Brazilian would like to face the champion in Tyron Woodley this October.
"If I could choose, I'd like to fight in October. What I heard from the UFC is that it'll be a title fight against Tyron Woodley, not it's up to them to set the date. I have a good feeling about this fight. Around the Top 5 and Top 10 guys, anyone can win,” Maia said to Combate.
Assuming he does get the title shot in October, that would be at the UFC 217 pay-per-view.
Maia also recognizes that the welterweight division have several fighters who could win the gold right now, not just himself.
“Especially at my weight class, I believes there's about five or six other guys who could be champions. But the champion is Tyron and know it'll be a hard fight, but I think I have a good shot against him,” said Maia.
Woodley hasn’t defended the UFC Welterweight Title since defeating Stephen Thompson by decision at UFC 209.
