Raven Says He Won’t Take A Job Working Backstage For WWE: “That Would Suck”

Don't hold your breath expecting Raven to make a return to WWE.

Recently interviewed by ESPN, Raven said he had been approached "at least three or four times" regarding a backstage job with WWE and had rejected the overture each time.

"No, I wouldn't take it," Raven said. "Here's the problem– creative you're just a cog. The problem is you create great ideas and then you don't get to see them come to fruition. That's so taxing to me emotionally because you get so involved in the characters. So that would suck. As far as being a backstage agent, I don't have any interest in that because I'm not using my creativity in any really strong way. You're just an agent, so that wouldn't interest me. It's a whole different world now. The old days I would've definitely been a booker somewhere, but now it's a 24-hour, 7-day a week job. I have no interest in being on the road that much because after 30 years of being on the road I'm happy at home."

Raven has not appeared for WWE since 2003, bypassing the One Night Stand events and the revival of the ECW name as a third WWE brand. If Raven ever happens to change his mind a couple of his potential coworkers are also fellow ECW mainstays: Steve Corino, who is a coach based out of the Performance Center in Orlando; and D-Von Dudley, who has worked as a road agent for WWE since the Dudleys had their in-ring farewell last August.

Back before the Raven character came to be, he did work for WWE in a behind-the-scenes capacity as an associate producer of Monday Night Raw in addition to appearing on camera as Johnny Polo. Raven described that behind-the-scenes job as "incredibly boring.

"I'd call the office at about 10 AM and say I'm going out to the studio and then I'd call the studio and say I'm going to the office. And then I'd go to bed and sleep until about 2 o'clock and then I'd finally go to the office for an hour, go to the studio for an hour and then I would go get drunk."
