Stevie Ray On Sherri Martel: We Only Had One Manager And She Was The Only One Who Worked With Us
Harlem Heat had four managers during their tenure in WCW. However, Stevie Ray only counts them as having one.
The former ten-time WCW Champion and WWE Hall of Famer Stevie Ray said after being the guest on this week’s Wrestling Perspective Podcast with Lars Frederiksen and Dennis Farrell.
When asked by Lars Frederiksen about the former managers that he and his brother Booker T had in their career at WCW. Stevie Ray said they only had one manager, in his opinion, and he would explain why WWE Hall of Famer Sherri Martel was the one he considered to be the manager of the WWE Hall of Fame Tag Team Harlem Heat.
“As I’m concerned, we only had one manager, Sherri. Everything else is bullshit. Everything else didn’t work, and it was bullshit. So whatever else is in your mind, take it and throw it away. She was the only person who worked with us, which was our choice.” Stevie Ray told the Wrestling Perspective Podcast.
Sherri Martel passed away in 2007 at the age of 58. Martel would manage Harlem Heat through seven of their ten title reigns from 1994 to 1997. Her last televised appearance was when she offered her managerial services to TNA’s Bobby Roode.
Stevie Ray also said. “I’ve been on record saying when they let Sherri go, I didn’t even want to do Harlem Heat anymore [with] the way they treated her. I didn’t want to do it anymore, so they put Jackie [Jacqueline Moore] with us. I love Jackie to death. She’s like a little sister to me, you know, but that’s not what we wanted; that’s what they wanted, and we were like, this isn’t working for us, and by the mere fact that you don’t have the professionalism to let us know that Sherri is not going be with us anymore, shows you what you think of us in a roundabout way. So I had a fucking problem with that, a hell of a problem with it to put somebody in.”

“I don’t know what she’s got going with whoever, to keep somebody on the payroll or whatever. I’m not down with that kind of bullshit, bro. That isn’t me. I’m not a go-along-to-get-along type of guy. If you don’t think my opinion is viable, then you’re telling me, fuck you, I say the same thing to you, fuck you.” Stevie Ray said.
