Chris Jericho Explains Why He Named His Bat Floyd
Since the pandemic era, Chris Jericho has carried around a bat named Floyd.
The belt has destroyed property and helped Jericho win a handful of matches during his AEW run.
Speaking to NHL.com, Jericho revealed that the name of his bat came from former St. Louis Blue Floyd Thomson, who fell on the ice during a game against the New York Islanders and swallowed his tongue.
“True story,” Jericho said. “How do you swallow your own tongue?! But he did it, and to this day in AEW, the bat I carry is called Floyd. I was looking for a name (similiar to) Lucille – Negan’s bat on The Walking Dead – and for some reason Floyd Thomson popped in my head. So the name on my bat in AEW comes from Floyd Thomson, former St. Louis Blue, who swallowed his own tongue.”
Jericho recently used Floyd on the March 17 episode of AEW Rampage, hitting Brody King with the bat, which led to Daniel Garcia picking up a victory.
The Blues could have used Jericho and Floyd in the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs when they lost in the second round to the eventual 2022 Stanley Cup Champion Colorado Avalanche.
Garcia will be in action on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite against Adam Cole. Fightful will have live coverage of the event beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
