GSP Would Retire With Comeback Fight Loss
Former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre is planning on returning to the Octagon later this year.
If disaster strikes for the former champion and he loses in his return to the Octagon, then he will stay retired for good.
“One thing I can tell you for sure is that I’m at one fight for retiring for good, this I can tell you for sure,” St. Pierre said on The MMA Hour. “If I come back and I lose, this is it for me. If I come back and I lose, it’s finished.”
When GSP finally does step back inside the Octagon, it is going to be the first time he competed since defeating Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 over four years ago.
Despite the threat of a permanent retirement, the former welterweight champion wants the MMA fans to know that he still has the fire to compete.
“I still have a lot of fire,” St. Pierre continued. “I don’t want to hang there and become a punching bag for the younger people. I do not believe I’m going to lose. I think I’m at my best, my trainers think I’m at my best. I put a lot on the line, and I know that if I come back it’s because I’m a much better version than what I was, and I want to go back to another shot and rewrite history. But if down the road I lose, I pass the torch, it’s over, it’s finished.”
GSP was set for a return fight against UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping later this year, but UFC President Dana White canceled the fight.
