Play-by-Play
Leon Edwards (C) vs. (#1) Kamaru Usman — UFC Welterweight Championship
Round One – Edwards opens the action with a low kick. Usman dives down for a takedown but Edwards lands a check left hook to halt the challenger’s attempt. Usman lands a right hook but whiffs on a lead leg kick. Edwards lands a low kick and follows it with a front kick to the body. Usman pops the jab and Edwards lands one of his own. Usman looks for a trip but Edwards lands a step in knee to the body and shoves the challenger back. Edwards cracks Usman with a kick to the body and Usman is hurt. Edwards lands another body kick and Usman dives in and clinches Edwards against the fence. Usman is looking for a double leg but Edwards shoves him back but referee Herb Dean tells Edwards not to grab at Usman’s glove again or he’ll deduct a point. The fight resumes and Edwards lands a kick to Usman’s lead leg. Usman lands a 1-2 but Edwards lands yet another low kick.

Round Two – Edwards lands a low kick to begin round number two. Usman lands a straight left to the body and Edwards kicks Usman below the belt. Referee Herb Dean asks Usman if he’s OK and the challenger gives the thumbs up to continue this one and the fight is quickly resumed. Edwards lands yet another low kick but the champion walks into a heavy jab from Usman. Edwards cracks Usman with a knee to the side of the head and Usman looks hurt but maybe he just slipped as he comes back forward and lands a straight left. Commentary says they saw the replay and it was a clean knee that landed for Edwards. Usman lands a right hook and lands a perfectly timed takedown on the champion. Edwards quickly pops back up to his feet and shoves Usman back. Edwards looks for a takedown but Usman sprawls and looks for the back. Edwards gets back to his feet and lands a left hook. Edwards rips a side kick to the body and just misses a high kick. Edwards lands a straight left then another kick to Usman’s lead leg. Edwards with another body kick, then goes right back to the well with a lead leg kick that lands. Edwards is 18 for 18 with leg kicks and is also perfect with his body kick attempts per the UFC broadcast. Usman lands a right hook, then a straight left at the horn and this one is headed to round number three.

Round Three – Edwards has landed 74% of his significant strikes, while Usman has done the same at just a 36% clip. Usman quickly secures a takedown to begin round number three. Edwards scrambles and gets right back up to his feet, Usman looks for another takedown but Edwards grabs the fence and Herb Dean watches the replay and decides to take a point away from Edwards. Dean says since there wasn’t an actual takedown, the fight will resume on the feet but Edwards has been deducted one point. The fight is back underway and Edwards immediately lands a low kick. Usman snaps Edwards’ head back with a hard jab followed by a heavy lead leg kick. Usman goes for another takedown but Edwards stays afloat and spins himself off of the fence and lands a low kick at the buzzer and this one is headed to championship rounds.

Round Four – Edwards opens with a low kick. Usman lands a 1-2 and a looping left hook. Edwards goes back to the well and lands a low kick. Usman goes for a takedown but slips and gets cracked with a left hook but Usman recovers and clinches Edwards against the fence. The champion shoves Usman back to the center of the octagon and Edwards continues to eat at Usman’s lead leg and a big welt is now visible above Usman’s left knee. Usman lands a straight left to the body followed by a right hook also to the mid-section. Edwards with a low kick that finds a home and drills Usman with a left hook. Edwards pops the jab and Usman clinches and trips Edwards to the mat. Edwards is quickly back up and shoves Usman off of him and lands a left hook for his troubles. Edwards lands a front kick to the knee and Usman looks for another takedown but Edwards slides out of danger for the time being. Edwards lands a left uppercut and just misses a lead leg kick. Usman pops the jab and lands a straight right to the body before diving for a takedown but Edwards slides back and avoids the attempt at the horn and this one is headed to the fifth and final round.

Round Five – The 13th round between these two is underway. Edwards lands a high kick and Usman didn’t like how that one felt but it looks like the challenger blocked most of it. Usman dives in for a takedown but Edwards holds firm and shoves Usman off of him as commentary says Usman is unofficially 3 for 10 on takedown attempts. Edwards cracks Usman with a 1-2, then a high kick, and an elbow. The champion is finding his range and Usman goes for another takedown but Edwards defends well once again and the challenger is now unofficially 3 for 11 on takedown attempts as Edwards circles back to the center of the octagon. Edwards lands a low kick and pops the jab before landing a straight left to the body. Edwards continues to eat at Usman’s lead leg and cracks Usman with a step in knee to the chin. Usman with a level change and looks for a single leg but Edwards is having none of it and shoves the challenger off of him yet again. Usman with yet another takedown attempt and this time, he trips Edwards to the mat. Edwards pops right back up to his feet and circles back to the center of the octagon with one minute remaining in this one as the London crowd is in a frenzy for the champion! Usman clinches yet again and Edwards defends well and breaks off of the challenger with just 20 seconds to go! Usman dives down once again but Edwards shoves him back and lands an elbow as Usman throws a wild combination at the horn and this one is headed to the judge’s scorecards.

(#3) Justin Gaethje vs. (#6) Rafael Fiziev
Round One – Fiziev opens with a side kick to the body. Gaethje returns fire with a body kick of his own. Fiziev lands a stabbing front kick to the body. Gaethje throws a flurry but Fiziev is able to evade any heavy shots and lands a low kick. Gaethje lands a left hook and Fiziev fires off another side kick to the body. Gaethje dives in for a takedown but Fiziev stuffs the attempt and rips a right hook to the body. Fiziev drills Gaethje with a right hook and shoves Gaethje back after another takedown attempt at the horn and this one is headed to round number two.
Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Fiziev.
Round Two – Fiziev opens the action with a side kick to the body. Gaethje partially lands an overhand right then clinches. Fiziev shoves Gathje back and lands a knee to the body but Gaethje accidentally pokes Fiziev in the eye. Referee Marc Goddard calls for a brief halt in the action but Fiziev quickly gives the OK and this one is back underway. Fiziev lands another body kick and Gaethje fires back with a wild combination. Gaethje lands a leg kick and Fiziev drills the former interim champion with a front kick to the body that lands flush and the buzzer sounds to send this one to the third and final round.

Round Three – Fiziev cracks Gaethje with a right hook to begin the final frame. Gaethje lands a left hook and a leg kick. Gaethje pops the jab, Fiziev lands a low kick as Gaethje continues to pepper in the jab. Fiziev lands a 1-2 and rips a left hook to the body. Gaethje is relentless with the jab and cracks Fiziev with a looping right hook. Fiziev lands a crisp left hook followed by a 1-2. Both of Fiziev’s eyes are an absolute bloody, swollen mess but he continues the attack and lands a 1-2. Gaethje is annihilating Fiziev with the jab this round and continues to go to the well as Fiziev’s eyes are almost shut now. Gaethje cracks Fiziev with a right uppercut and Fiziev lands a left hook, then a 1-2, and Gaethje lands a perfectly timed takedown at the horn and this one is headed to the judge’s scorecards.

Gunnar Nelson vs. Bryan Barberena
Round One – Nelson clinches right off the bat. Nelson scoops and slams Barberena and has over half of the round to work. Nelson goes for a kimura, Barberena scrambles and Nelson ends up securing the arm with an armbar and Bareberena has no choice but to tap out!

(#8) Jennifer Maia vs. (#12) Casey O’Neill
Round One – O’Neill has a head kick blocked to start. Maia lands a 1-2, then another, and the former title challenger is finding her range early on in this one. Maia rips another 1-2 but this time, O’Neill lands a counter right hook. Maia continues to pour it on with a bevy of shots and mixes a leg kick into her attack. Maia pops the jab, O’Neill lands a 1-2 of her own, and O’Neill lands a low kick. O’Neill starts to find her range and cracks Maia with a 1-2 then a left hook. Maia clinches then looks for the takedown but O’Neill shoves the former title challenger back and lands a 1-2 on the break. Maia lands a low kick then just misses on a head kick in behind and the horn sounds to end the opening frame.

Round Two – Maia lands a nifty combination to start. O’Neill snaps Maia’s head back with a straight right but Maia continues the forward pressure and lands another 1-2. O’Neill clinches, Maia escapes and lands a right hook on the break. A wild flurry from both competitors ensues but nothing of consequence lands for either party and O’Neill whiffs on a head kick attempt. Maia lands a front kick to the body and follows it up with yet another slick combination. Maia’s boxing looks extremely crisp here tonight through the first-half of the bout. O’Neill lands a right hook then clinches but Maia reverses momentum and now has O’Neill pressed against the fence. O’Neill shoves Maia back but eats a 1-2 on the break. O’Neill whiffs on a head kick and eats a 1-2 from Maia at the buzzer and this one is headed to the third and final round.

Round Three – Maia clinches pretty quickly and looks for the back. O’Neill defends nicely and circles back to the center of the cage after forcing the break. O’Neill lands a 1-2 then partially lands a head kick. O’Neill jabs and her nose is busted open pretty badly here. O’Neill lands another 1-2 and works in the jab. Maia lands a right hook, O’Neill lands a low kick, and a 1-2 back up top. O’Neill lands a front kick to the body, Maia clinches and looks for a takedown but O’Neill defends well and backs herself up to the cage wall. O’Neill forces the break and cracks Maia with a right hook and both competitors throw heat at the horn and this one is headed to the judge’s scorecards.

(#4) Marvin Vettori vs. (#9) Roman Dolidze
Round One – Vettori opens the action with a low kick. Dolidze drills Vettori out of nowhere with a walloping left hook and Vettori is hurt! Dolidze rushes over looking for the finish but Vettori defends nicely and looks mostly recovered. Vettori lands another leg kick and Dolidze accidentally clashes heads with Vettori but both competitors give the OK to continue. Dolidze lands a bevy of shots, Vettori looks hurt again but the former title challenger stuns Dolidze with a left hook at the horn and this one is headed to round number two.

Round Two – Dolidze with a low kick to start. Vettori lands a right hook then pops the jab. Dolidze wallops Vettori with a right hook but eats a counter straight right from Vettori. Dolidze lands a 1-2, Vettori lands a low kick, and Dolidze clinches Vettori against the fence. Vettori slides out of danger and rips a right hook to the body. Vettori lands another low kick, then one more for good measure and the buzzer sounds to end a much more calm second round.

Round Three – Dolidze lands a right hook to open the final frame. Vettori lands a 1-2 but Dolidze drills the former title challenger with a right hook for his troubles. Vettori lands a low kick then works in the jab back up top. Dolidze blocks a high kick but eats a jab from Vettori. Dolidze cracks Vettori with an overhand right and lands a step in left elbow in behind. Vettori lands a straight right but eats a 1-2 from Dolidze. Vettori lands a lead leg kick and Dolidze fires back with a 1-2 as the final 90 seconds approach. Dolidze blocks a head kick and lands a 1-2 as Vettori lands a lead leg kick. Vettori clinches, Dolidze evaded and just misses a straight right hand at the buzzer and this one is headed to the judge’s scorecards.
