GCW Formally Opposes AEW’s ‘Fight Forever’ Trademark, In Settlement Negotiations

AEW Fight Forever has hit another potential obstacle.

AEW Fight Forever has hit another potential obstacle.

AEW is in the process of developing its first console game, “AEW Fight Forever.” No release date has been confirmed for the game. Kenny Omega recently noted that the game’s ESRB rating, which forced some changes to the content, pushed back its release. Now, a new issue has become apparent.

Attorney Mike Dockins filed paperwork on GCW’s behalf with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on March 1, 2023. In it, he noted that the company is opposing AEW’s trademark of “Fight Forever”, the name of its upcoming console game, and the office’s approval of the request. The documents note that GCW asked for a 90-day extension to file a notice of opposition, which was granted. It is also noted that the two companies are engaged in settlement discussions.

Pursuant to 37 C.F.R. Section 2.102, Game Changer Wrestling, LLC, 1000 Jackson St., Toledo, OH 43504, UNITED States, a limited liability company, organized by the laws of Delaware, respectfully requests that it be granted a 90-day extension of time to file a notice of opposition against the above-identified mark for cause shown.

Potential opposed believes that good causes are established for this request by:

-The potential opposed needs additional time to investigate the claim.

– The potential opposer needs additional time to confer with counsel.

– The potential opposer is engaged in settlement discussions with applicant.

The time within which to file a notice of opposition is set to expire on 03/02/2023. Game Changer Wrestling respectfully requests that the time period within which to file an opposition be extended until 05/31/2023.

The extension has been granted, and the new deadline is May 31. In the filing, GCW wrote that it needed more time to investigate the claim and confer with their counsel, Dockins.

GCW filed for a trademark on “Fight Forever” on July 21, 2022, after AEW filed for their trademark on March 21, 2022. GCW’s 24-hour Fight Forever event was held on January 29, 2021.

GCW owner Brett Lauderdale commented on a fan’s response to the situation by stating that GCW has never, and will never, ask for a dollar of AEW owner Tony Khan’s money.

AEW Fight Forever is being developed by Yuke’s and published by THQ Nordic. It previously won the award for Best Sports/Racing Game at Gamescom 2022. More information is available here.
