WWE Bringing Backlash Premium Live Event To Puerto Rico In May; Bad Bunny To Host
WWE is bringing a major event to Puerto Rico for the first time since 2005.
As first reported by Variety, WWE has added a new premium live event date to their calender, as the annual Backlash event is set to take place on Saturday, May 6. Notably, the event will emanate from Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This will be the first premium live event/pay-per-view that has been held in the country since the company held New Year’s Revolution back in 2005.
In more notable news, huge crossover star Bad Bunny is set to host the event. Bunny, real name Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, was born in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, which is roughly an hour from San Juan. Bunny last wrestled for WWE at the 2022 Royal Rumble event, where he was one of the final five competitors in the match.
In a statement to Variety, Bunny noted that he wasn’t able to attend New Year’s Revolution in 2005, so he’s excited to see WWE back in Puerto Rico in a major way.
“In 2005 when I was a kid, I wasn’t able to attend New Year’s Revolution at el Coliseo. Finally, 18 years later WWE returns to the island with a massive event and this time I won’t miss it.”
Backlash will be the first WWE premium live event after WrestleMania 39, which will take place on April 1 & 2. Later that month, WWE will also return to Saudi Arabia for the King & Queen Of The Ring event that will be held in Jeddah. Fans can learn more about King & Queen Of The Ring by clicking here.
