Jon Jones returns to the Octagon on Saturday when he faces Ciryl Gane for the vacant UFC Heavyweight Title.
Jones is the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, but hasn’t fought since February 2020 due to personal and professional issues ranging from drug testing to arrests to money disagreements.
During Jones’ reign in the light heavyweight division, there was always talk of him moving up to heavyweight, but it never came to fruition until Saturday. A dream fight for many fans was Jones against Brock Lesnar, who was the UFC Heavyweight Champion from November 2008 to October 2010
“I think fighting Brock Lesnar would have been really cool. Brock isn’t the most technical guy, but he has a massive fanbase. He’s a lot bigger than me. It would have been one of those cool David and Goliath situations. It would have been cool from cross-sport promoting and we both would have done great things for our family and our team. Financially, that would have been massive. Never say never. Brock, if you’re out there,” Jones relayed through an interview with Sporting News.
Lesnar last fought at UFC 200, defeating Mark Hunt by decision, though the result was overturned after Lesnar tested positive for clomiphene.
Jones won the UFC Light Heavyweight Title in March 2011 and never lost the title inside the Octagon, winning 14 straight fights with the belt on the line.
Lesnar is set to face Omos at WrestleMania 39. Fans can check out the current lineup for WrestleMania 39 by clicking here.
