The Undertaker Explains Why He Thinks Storylines Are Harder With Social Media

During his WWE career, The Undertaker was famous for never breaking character. He would remain “The Deadman” even outside of the arena in an effort to protect the business.

Leading up to his retirement, Undertaker was more open to doing interviews and now does an entire one-man show discussing his career.

Social media has become a prevalent storytelling medium in the wrestling world with angles being advanced and lines being blurred. Lines can also become clearer as some wrestlers act one way on-screen and then come across differently on social media.

Appearing on Hot Boxin with Mike Tyson, Undertaker was asked if social media makes staying in character harder for wrestlers.

“For me, it does. Just our fanbase in general, they are more concerned now with what’s happening behind the scenes, not so much what’s going on in the ring. They want the dirt. It’s just like anything else in our society and it’s all social media driven. Everybody puts their life out there. It’s hard for me, watching everything, ‘you’re this guy on TV and then you go on social media and you’re somebody completely different.’ For me, it’s a huge disconnect. It is what it is and that’s where we’re at. I don’t necessarily like it, but there’s nothing I can do about it. That’s just the way it is. It makes things harder. It really makes things harder to have good storylines and people invested. Guys give everything away,” he said.

Elsewhere during the interview, Tyson said he’d rather be in WWE over AEW, even if AEW paid more. You can find his full comments by clicking here.

Undertaker is currently retired, but remains active in the WWE universe by doing his one man show.
