Taya Valkyrie Talks Her MLW Return, Says Being The First Woman In The Battle Riot Was ‘Really Cool’
Taya Valkyrie discusses her return to MLW.
Upon her return to the promotion in 2022, Taya Valkyrie quickly made history in MLW, as she became the company’s first ever Featherweight Women’s Champion. Since winning the title, Valkyrie has went on to have bouts against Brittany Blake, Trish Adora, and Billie Starkz.
In a new interview with Fightful, Valkyrie spoke fondly of her current run with the company, citing that it’s a great work environment.
“So I worked with Court Bauer before. So he reached out to me, explained what they were planning on doing and really bringing the women’s division to the forefront and I love that. I love changing the scene at a company and changing what people think of the women’s division somewhere. So I was onboard. We started with a few dates and now it’s led to me being the first ever Featherweight Women’s Champion at MLW. I’m happy to see all these new faces coming in and getting these opportunities, and how much he’s really bringing in a lot of extremely talented Mexican talent that I’ve known for many, many years who are now getting that American television exposure. It’s just a really great work environment and I’m happy to be there.”
Valkyrie also spoke about getting the chance to enter the Battle Riot match back in 2022.
“It was kind of last minute, too. So I was like, ‘Oh, okay. So here we go.’ Listen, my career and my life has not exactly been the straight road to success. It has been very winding and had many bumps and valleys and mountains. I look the challenge in the eyes and go, ‘Guess, I’m gonna get murdered by Parker in the corner and kicked in the face by Kevin Kross. So here we are!’ I love any opportunity to do inter-gender stuff, obviously. Having been the first woman to be in the Battle Riot is really cool. Throw it at me. Throw me a challenge, I’ll take it down.”
