WWE 2K23 Creative Director Says The Release Of AEW Fight Forever Will ‘Drive Us To Be Stronger’

WWE 2K23 Creative Director Lynell Jinks discusses the upcoming release of AEW Fight Forever as WWE Games faces its first competition from a major promotion in over a decade.

During the Attitude Era, WWE and WCW competed in every way possible. While a great focus is put on the competition in the TV ratings, the video game space was also a combat zone for WWE and WCW with multiple games being released every year and fans having to choose which brand to support and enjoy each offering.

With the rise of AEW comes the launch of a brand-new console game. AEW Fight Forever is due out in 2023 and WWE 2K23  will finally have competition.

Speaking with WCCF Tech, WWE 2K23 Creative Director Lynell Jinks addressed the competitor and said that he is looking forward to competition allowing each brand to excel and better themselves as they will have something to compare their game to.

“I love competition. I started on NBA 2K, I spent 10 years on it, and at that time, we were going against NBA Inside Drive. Then we were going against [NBA] ShootOut and NBA Live, and every year, we would look at what they did and be, like, “that’s interesting” or “they did this better than us.” That only makes our games better,” said Jinks. “Same thing you can say about wrestling in general — having competition, to me, it’s no coincidence that the storylines [in WWE] have been the best they’ve been in a long time. I think it’s because of that competition. It’s the same with video games. I’m looking forward to seeing what they’re gonna do that’s going to drive us to be even stronger.”

WWE 2K23 Associate Gameplay Producer Bryan Williams was previously employed by Yuke’s and was instrumental in Fight Forever’s early development before leaving to return to WWE Games.

This year’s big addition to the annual WWE release is the inclusion of a WarGames Match for the first time in video game history. Fans can see a list of features in WWE 2K23 at this link.
