Former UFC employee Burt Watson has kept his fingers in the proverbial MMA pool since his days with the promotion came to an end some time ago.
The “Babysitter To The Stars” is interested in a potential Conor McGregor/Floyd Mayweather super fight, but in the end, sees it simply as a fight driven by money.
"I do think that a fight of this magnitude was definitely driven by money," Watson said to IB Times UK. "Mayweather and McGregor are the biggest names in their sports and have the highest pay-per-view numbers. Twenty years ago, before I joined MMA, I did a boxing event in Atlantic City with Oleg Taktarov. We put boxing gloves on MMA fighters that no one had heard of and it never really made it out of A.C."
Watson has seen his fair share of major combat sporting events throughout his years, whether it came in boxing or MMA.
In the end, the former UFC employee compares the potential super fight to another boxer versus MMA fighter encounter.
"Same thing when I coordinated James Toney and Randy Couture [at UFC 118]. It didn't turn out too good for James Toney. I worked with James Toney in his glory days and knew him as an exceptional athlete. It was sad to see him last half a round, but that was all about the money,” says Watson.
A date for the potential super fight has yet to be set, but McGregor has signed the contract for the bout.
