Sabian has been with AEW since 2019, but he missed over a year when he went down with a shoulder injury in 2021. He returned to the ring in 2022, as he targeted AEW All-Atlantic Champion PAC. Sabian unsuccessfully challenged for the title on the Zero Hour ahead of AEW All Out. He later started feuding with Cassidy, who beat PAC to win the title. Cassidy defeated Sabian to retain the gold at AEW Battle of the Belts V.
During a virtual signing with Captain’s Corner, Sabian was asked to name his most enjoyable moment since he returned. He responded by naming his feud with Cassidy and stated that it felt like the first time he has been able to “fully expand” his wings. Sabian also teased that his new character is still in its infancy, as he has plenty of ideas.
“What we created with the Best Friends and Orange Cassidy, by far. I feel like it was the first chance that I’ve actually had to fully expand my wings with wrestling. I’m very high on the belief that the art form of wrestling is super important, and I try and treat it in an artistic manner, like you would treat a role in a movie. I feel like there were so many little undertones that we did during that period that I was very happy with the outcome, especially when we had the final match. So yeah, that was probably the thing that’s been the most rewarding since doing the new character. There’s so much more to go with it. It’s still in its infancy. I have some really good ideas. You don’t want to see the notes page on my phone. It’s crazy. There’s some really good stuff in there,” Sabian said.
During the same signing, Sabian noted that there’s room for a feud between him & Penelope Ford and Sammy Guevara & Tay Melo. Check out his comments here.
Cassidy recently stated that he would try to beat Bryan Danielson by punching him. Click here to see what he had to say.
Mark Briscoe will compete on the January 25 episode of AEW Dynamite. Check out the card here.
