Baron Black Discusses The Importance Of Running Battle Slam During Martin Luther King Jr Weekend

Battle Slam held its latest event on January 15 in Atlanta, GA with a show headlined by Baron Black defending the Battle Slam Icon World Championship against Jonathan Gresham. 

The event was titled DREAM after Martin Luther King Jr and his famous “I have a dream” speech along with his general message of diversity and togetherness. For Baron Black, running the show on Martin Luther King Jr weekend was a priority. 

“It means everything. I always wanted to put events on in Atlanta around certain holidays and Atlanta has a lot going on during Martin Luther King Jr holiday weekend. It’s a big weekend for Atlanta, for obvious reasons. MLK is from here, he was born here, he was laid to rest here at King Memorial Center. I wanted to do something to really feed off the message that he had, which is always about bringing everybody together with diversity. As you can see with the Battle Slam DREAM card, it was diverse and it was booked that way on purpose. It signifies part of what his dream was, that’s why we called it Battle Slam DREAM, to pay homage and honor him for all the work he’s done to even have people like myself, African-American athletes, to do what we do today. We’re out here and we have to pay respect to him,” Black told Fightful’s Stephen Jensen.

Black stated that Battle Slam will hold another event in February and honor Black History month. He did not give an exact date for the event.
