Matt Jackson: I’m Sure One Day You’ll See The Young Bucks Back In A NJPW Ring

The Young Bucks say they were unable to accept an offer to appear at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17

The Young Bucks say they were unable to accept an offer to appear at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17, but they’re confident they’ll return someday.

Matt and Nick Jackson competed at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, but they haven’t wrestled in an NJPW ring since Wrestle Kingdom 13 in January 2019. Before that, as members of Bullet Club, they were two of the top stars in NJPW, and they garnered plenty of buzz for the company. Since their departure, they have been featured in AEW, and they have won the AEW World Tag Team Championship twice. Their fellow AEW EVP Kenny Omega returned to NJPW at Wrestle Kingdom 17, where he defeated Will Ospreay to win the IWGP United States Championship, and the Bucks reveal that they were asked to be there.

In an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Matt and Nick discussed Wrestle Kingdom 17 and noted that they got a “fantastic offer” to wrestle and accompany Omega to the ring, but they already had vacation plans.

“We were actually asked to wrestle and be in Kenny’s corner. But Matt and I had vacation plans that week. Maybe next year. Who knows?” Nick Jackson said.

Matt then explained that the timing didn’t work out for Wrestle Kingdom 17, but he stated that he’s sure fans will see the Young Bucks back in an NJPW ring one day.

“We got a fantastic offer. Personally, the timing and the situation didn’t fit for us. I’m sure one day you’ll see us back in a NJPW ring,” Matt said.

As for Omega’s match against Ospreay, Nick said they “killed it” and called the bout a classic. The brothers were also asked about Omega’s tag team match at NJPW New Year Dash, where he teamed up with Kazuchika Okada. Matt responded to the idea of a potential clash between the teams by saying, “Bring it.” Likewise, Nick expressed that he’d be down for the match.

“Seeing Okada and Kenny in the ring together gave the wrestling world goosebumps. That tag match would be a dream match, and I’d be down for it,” Nick said.

The Bucks and Omega will face Death Triangle (PAC, Penta El Zero Miedo & Rey Fenix) in an Escalera De La Muerte on the January 11 episode of AEW Dynamite. Check out the card here.

After Omega beat Ospreay, he shared his thoughts on the match in a tweet. Click here to see what he had to say.
