WWE RAW (1/9/23) Results: Alexa Bliss Explains Her Actions, Austin Theory Moves Forward, More

– Alexa Bliss explains her actions

– The next chapter for Austin Theory


– Kevin Owens started the show and was immediately interrupted by Baron Corbin & JBL. JBL says no one believes Owens will beat Roman Reigns at the Royal Rumble. Corbin boasts that he’s the last person to pin Roman. KO pretends to fall asleep from boredom. Corbin threatens him. KO challenges him to a match.

Kevin Owens vs. Baron Corbin w/ (JBL)

Owens manages to overtake control early on. Corbin dips to the outside as Owens goes for a Cannonball. On the outside, Corbin hits a Chokeslam on the apron. Back from a commercial break, Owens nails a Cannonball. Corbin tries a Superplex, but Owens knocks him off and hits a Swanton Bomb for two. KO misses a Stunner buts hits a Superkick. Corbin nails Owens with a Lariat for two. Corbin eventually nails Deep Six for another near fall. Corbin maintains control, but KO hits a sudden Stunner for the win.

Winner: Kevin Owens by pinfall.

– After the match, The Bloodline’s Usos and Solo Sikoa attack KO. Despite his best efforts, Owens seems outmatched but eventually uses a steel chair to neutralize the sons of Rikishi. Finally, Adam Pearce, yelling ‘Enough!’, comes down to separate all parties.

– An update on Bianca Belair is next.

– A replay of Owens’ brawl with The Bloodline plays. Adam Pearce tells The Usos there’s a Tag Team Turmoil bout for the number one contendership. Solo Sikoa will face Dolph Ziggler tonight, and he’s flying Solo as The Usos are ejected from the arena.

– A replay of Bianca getting assaulted by Alexa Bliss last week. It’s said Bliss was fined “an undisclosed amount.” Also, Bianca has “multiple stitches.” 

– Alexa Bliss arrives and stands on the announce desk. She declares herself “The Face of Evil.” She says she is in control and threatens to take the Raw Women’s Title from Bianca. Uncle Howdy interrupts Alexa, asking her if she feels in charge. Howdy arrives on stage. He and Bliss stare each other down from across the arena.

Bayley vs. “Michin” Mia Yim

Before the match, Bayley taunts Becky Lynch and praises Damage CTRL, giving them the night off. As the bell rings, Bayley attacks Michin. Michin eventually reverses the momentum. Heading into the break, Michin nails a dropkick to Bayley’s shoulder, sending her reeling from the apron to the ringside mat. Back from break, Bayley is in control. She hits her Middle Rope Jawbreaker, sending Michin to the floor. On the outside, Bayley nails a Suplex. Michin eventually battles back, bailing a Suicide Dive. In the ring, Michin follows up with a Pele Kick and German Suplex. Michin misses a Cannonball. Bayley misses Bayley 2 Belly. Through some quick maneuvering, Bayley wins by putting her feet on the ropes with a Backslide pin.

Winner: Bayley by pinfall.

– It’s announced Johnny Gargano has a grade 2 AC sprain.

– Cathy Kelley interviews Candice LeRae as Nikki Cross looms in the background. LeRae says she’s excited to compete in the Royal Rumble. Rhea Ripley interrupts and mocks Candice’s goal. She says Dominik Mysterio will be on Miz TV tonight. Candice and Rhea agree to go one-on-one tonight.

– Austin Theory arrives. He says, “The Champ is Here!” He boasts about beating Seth Rollins last week. Rollins arrives with a crutch, selling last week’s injury. Theory and Rollins declare for the Royal Rumble and say they’ll be headlining WrestleMania. As Seth goes to leave, Bobby Lashley returns. Lashley walks by Seth, hits the ring, Spears Theory, and declares for the Royal Rumble himself.

– Candice LeRae vs. Rhea Ripley is next.

Candice LeRae vs. Rhea Ripley

Rhea Ripley dominates. Candice gets a hope spot with a German Suplex. In the end, Rhea locked in her submission on Candice on the outside. In the ring, Rhea hit Riptide for the win.

Winner: Rhea Ripley by pinfall.

 Backstage, Bobby Lashley is approached by MVP. MVP wants to reunite The Hurt Business. Lashley says he’s good with MVP, but he won’t ever forget what they went through, and he’s not ready for a reunion.

– Cody Rhodes’s road to recovery is continued to be chronicled.

– Backstage, Mustafa Ali asks Dolph Ziggler why he declined to team with him tonight. Ziggler says it’s nothing personal, but tonight is about getting revenge on Solo Sikoa.

– Byron Saxton interviews backstage, Bronson Reed. The Miz approaches Reed and tries to say that they are two peas in a pod and presents their relationship as though Reed will always have his back. However, Reed tells Miz they have no connection, and if he wants anything from him, Bronson expects to be paid.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Solo Sikoa 

Ahead of the following commercial break, Solo Sikoa throws Dolph Ziggler to the floor. Back from the break, Solo goes for the running hip attack. Ziggler tries to use his speed to his advantage. Ziggler hits his signature DDT for two. Then, Dolph Ziggler goes for the Zig Zag and gets a two-count. Solo hits the Samoan Spike for the victory. Afterward, The Usos return to celebrate with him.

Winner: Solo Sikoa by pinfall.

– Dominik Mysterio’s arrest is replayed again, and he will be on Miz TV next.

– Cathy Kelley interviews Bayley. Michin arrives and calls Bayley a cheater. Bayley and Damage CTRL assault Michin backstage. Bayley tells Michin not to take up for someone who won’t be there for her in return.

– Dominik recounts the”horror stories” of his time in “prison.” Mysterio recalls being in his cell with his cellmate and slapping the guy awake, asking him if they had a problem. The Miz says he heard that Dominik was only in the county jail for about 3 hours. The Good Brothers come out to interrupt the festivities, and Tag Team Turmoil begins.

Tag Team Turmoil: The OC (Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson) vs. Judgment Day (Finn Balor & Damian Priest) vs. Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins) vs. Cedric Alexander & Shelton Benjamin vs. Alpha Academy (Chad Gable & Otis)

Gallows & Anderson start the match with Balor & Priest and maintain control going into the commercial break. Coming out of the commercial, Finn Balor is trying to stop Karl Anderson from making the tag to Luke Gallows. Luke Gallows gets in the ring but is quickly distracted and rolled up by Finn Balor, eliminating The OC.

Judgment Day eliminates The OC by pinfall. 

Now, Benjamin & Alexander hit the ring. Alexander gets a near fall with a Michinoku Driver. Benjamin & Alexander make quick tags and maintain control of Balor. Judgment Day pin Cedric Alexander after Damian hits South of Heaven and Finn Balor hits Coup de Grace.

Judgment Day eliminates Shelton Benjamin & Cedric Alexander by pinfall.

Alpha Academy comes out next, heading into the commercial break.  Judgment Day eliminates Alpha Academy when Otis incidentally hits the Vader Bomb on Chad Gable, who was pulled on top of Finn. 

Judgment Day eliminates Alpha Academy by pinfall.

– Finn Balor, who also took the damage of the Vader Bomb, was deemed medically unfit to compete for the rest of the match. Dominik Mysterio replaces him for the final fight with The Street Profits.

The Street Profits went back and forth with Judgment Day. Throughout the majority of the match, Dominik ran away from conflict. In the end, Montez Ford hit a 450 Splash but was pulled out by Priest, distracting forward long enough to allow Dominik to roll him up and put his feet on the ropes for the victory. To close the show, The Usos stared down Judgment Day.   

Judgment Day eliminates The Street Profits by pinfall.
