Dustin Poirier Wants Compensation & Rematch After UFC 211 Controversy

Controversy reared its ugly head at UFC 211 when the bout between Dustin Poirier and Eddie Alvarez was ruled a no contest after Alvarez nailed Poirier with several illegal knee strikes.

Poirier now wants two things from the UFC — added compensation from the fight and a rematch with the former lightweight champion.

“I earned that money for my family,” he told MMA Junkie. “That’s my daughter’s college fund. I’m a prizefighter, and somebody made a call and took away the opportunity for me to make my money. I want my compensation, and I want a rematch.”

The fighter has already filed an appeal with the Texas Department Of Regulation & Licensing to have the result of the bout changed from a no contest to a disqualification win.

Despite the referee ruling the knee strikes were accidental, they were intentional in Poirier’s mind.

“I’m protected by these rules,” Poirier said. “I think he’s trying to cover his own ass. Any time somebody strikes somebody with a blow, it’s intentional. I don’t understand. He didn’t trip me and kick me on the ground – he intentionally kneed me on the ground.”

A ruling has yet to be issued by the TDLR and it’s unknown at this time when that ruling will come.
