Alexa Bliss Reflects On Working With Bray Wyatt: That Was The Most Fun I’ve Ever Had In My Career

Alexa Bliss says her run working with Bray Wyatt was the most fun she’s ever had.

Alexa Bliss says her run working with Bray Wyatt was the most fun she’s ever had.

Bliss aligned with Wyatt in the summer of 2020, and she morphed into the Dark Alexa character that eventually showcased a number of supernatural abilities. The duo feuded with Randy Orton for several months, and the rivalry culminated at WrestleMania 37, where Bliss turned on Wyatt and helped Orton win the match. Bliss went on to introduce the Lilly doll, and she had a singles run in her dark persona before she eventually returned to her “normal” self.

Speaking with BT Sport’s Rob Armstrong on What Went Down, Bliss discussed her time working with Wyatt and stated that it was the most fun she’s ever had in her entire career.

“This was the most fun I’ve ever had in my entire career. The most fun I’ve ever had in my entire career, I can easily say, was this time period. I’ve never had more fun in my life,” she said.

When asked whether was she into the idea of working with Wyatt right away, Bliss stated that she was all in. She recalled how she had pitched a character similar to the Dark Alexa fans saw during her time alongside Wyatt while she was in NXT. She made it cleae that she enjoys going outside the box and doing different things.

“100%. I had pitched a character like this, Dark Alexa, way back in NXT, before Blake and Murphy. I’ve always loved doing something different. I don’t like being the same character all the time. I remember, I’ve looked back, and I was like, ‘Man, I’ve been like six or seven different versions of myself,’ which was so fun. I love being able to portray a character. I love being able to go outside of the box, do different things, and this was the most fun,” Bliss said.

Seth Rollins previously stated that the Bray Wyatt character was difficult to work with, at least during his run as The Fiend. Armstrong brought up these comments and wondered whether Bliss felt the same way. She responded by describing how Wyatt is a creative genius, and she felt the need to step her game up. Bliss compared him to a fast-moving train and stated that she felt like she had to step up or get off.

“He is such a creative genius that it made me want to step my game up. We had had conversations before, but not like this. So whenever he would say, ‘Okay, so I have this idea for this, this, this, and this,’ it made me realize that I’m on this fast-moving train, and I either have to step up or get the hell off. So it was one of those things. He’s a fast-moving train. He’s creatively always going, always thinking, always thinking of the next thing, always saying, ‘Hey, have you seen this documentary? Watch this documentary, watch this because there’s something here you can take from John Wayne Gacy, there’s something you can take from the Manson situation. There’s all these things you can take from.’ So I’ve never put so much research into a character as I did when I was with Bray, and I think that’s why it was so fun for me, too. I was doing something completely different, but I was also taking things from real life and putting it into a character for the first time, so it was really cool,” Bliss said.

Bliss continued by emphasizing that she enjoyed bouncing ideas off of Wyatt. She described how working with him helped unlock a part of her, as she now comes up with ideas that she can pitch. Bliss named the concept for Lilly as one product of this new approach.

“He’s such a creative genius. He has all of these ideas. Some of them are way out there that you have to reel in. You’re like, ‘Okay, I don’t think we can do that.’ But then there’s all these things, he just has all these concepts and all these ideas that are just so good. It was so fun to be able to sit down with him and just bounce ideas back and forth. But because working with him, now I have almost unlocked a different side of my brain creatively to where now I get these ideas that I can pitch and try to portray, and it’s just so much more. Because of him, I was able to come up with the concept for Lilly, so it was cool. It was really cool,” Bliss said.

A few months after Bliss and Wyatt parted ways, WWE released the former Universal Champion in July 2021. But Wyatt returned to the company at Extreme Rules 2022; his arrival was the culmination of several weeks of White Rabbit QR codes that featured plenty of clues about the mystery. Bliss commented on Wyatt’s return by sharing her belief that, without him, there was a character void in WWE.

“Obviously he’s such a key part of WWE, and such a presence and character that it’s so great that he’s back because I feel like there was this character void, and the fact that he’s back, and you need that creative energy around for sure,” she said.

In recent weeks, Bliss has been turning heel again, as Wyatt’s logo continues to pop up around her. Last week’s episode of WWE Raw featured the clearest tease yet; Bliss nearly hit Bianca Belair with the Sister Abigail. More information is available here.
