MJF: I Sat Out After Facing Cody Rhodes And Thought, ‘Are You Guys F*cking Stupid?’

MJF’s first big opportunity in AEW came at AEW Revolution 2020 when he faced Cody Rhodes. Though MJF won, many fans remember that match as the night Cody debuted his now famous neck tattoo.

The pandemic hit after AEW Revolution and MJF ended up being one of the fans in the crowd during the early days of the pandemic, gambling with Shawn Spears.

Speaking to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, MJF reflected on being part of the crowd after his program with Cody.

“People might not remember this, but after my feud with Cody Rhodes [in 2020], I was sat,” said MJF. “I was sat out. Literally. I had to sit behind the guardrail. I sat beside Shawn Spears and Shawn Dean and Sonny Kiss and all these other people, and I had to sit there and watch the shows. I remember thinking to myself, ‘Are you guys f—ing stupid? I’m literally the biggest star here. What’s happening here?’”

MJF wouldn’t be in the crowd too long as he entered into a program with Jungle Boy with the two squaring off at AEW Double or Nothing.

Now, MJF is AEW World Champion and set to face Ricky Starks at AEW Dynamite Winter Is Coming.

“People have been waiting for fresh and new,” he said. “They’ve been begging for it. Now, in the main event of AEW Dynamite, the MJF show, you get two homegrown guys wrestling for the most important world title in professional wrestling.”
