Shawn Michaels Wants The New Day To Be Part Of NXT Vengeance Day 2023 But Nothing Is Finalized
Shawn Michaels cannot guarantee it, but he wants The New Day to be a part of NXT Vengeance Day 2023.
At NXT Deadline 2022, The New Day’s Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods captured the WWE NXT Tag Team Championship. Of course, Kingston and Woods are members of the WWE SmackDown roster and as such, their commitment to the NXT brand is uncertain at this time but if Shawn Michaels has his way, they will be part of the brand for a handful of months and the NXT Tag Team Championships will be present on WWE Friday Night SmackDown.
Shawn Michaels spoke about Kingston and Woods’ immediate futures on WWE NXT during a media call following NXT Deadline after being asked by Mike Johnson of PWInsider if the upcoming NXT premium live event in Charlotte, North Carolina, Vengeance Day, played a factor in putting the Tag Team Championships on such a veteran tag team with credibility and star power.
“We had a call the other day, and I genuinely and sincerely was — we weren’t sure what we were going to do,” said HBK. “I’m always pretty honest with you guys. You know, it’s one of those things like I’ll send a couple of texts and I’ll see what we can do.
“Once again, none of it has been finalized yet, but I have every intention because, as best that I understand it right now, The New Day is still a part of SmackDown, so our titles should definitely be represented,” Shawn added. That crossover that we had in the last several months is going to continue. I’ll say this, sometimes I think we lose concept of the fact that — I guess I’m always conservative, and I don’t ever want to bother anybody and I don’t push more than I should. But every now and then, heck, all I have to do is ask a question and Hunter [Triple H] says, ‘Yeah, sure.’ Then, we have to talk to talent and just see if it works for everybody.”
Shawn Michaels reiterated that he isn’t sure if Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods will be able to be a part of the February 4 event in Charlotte, North Carolina, but he does have to think about selling tickets and is hopeful that New Day can be a part of Vengeance Day.
“The thing is, I’m thinking about Vengeance Day but that isn’t, obviously, finalized, but I absolutely have to think about selling those tickets in Charlotte and finding out what we can do to best help that. At this point right now, I can’t say that I know that New Day is going to be a part of that but I can promise you I’m going to do everything I can to make sure that they are because that’s something that’s going to be beneficial in making that premium live event in Charlotte something special.”
The upcoming event on February 4 will be the first NXT Premium Live Event outside of WrestleMania weekend to travel out of Orlando since NXT TakeOver: Portland in February 2020. Shawn Michaels recently spoke about how important it will be for the brand to start traveling again. You can read his comments at this link.
