Play-by-Play
(#3) Jan Blachowicz vs. (#4) Magomed Ankalaev
Round One – Ankalaev with a 1-2 to start. Ankalaev lands a right hook and Blachowicz counters with a right hook of his own. Ankalaev wallops Blachowicz with a straight right, then rips a right hook to the body as Blachowicz comes back with a right hook up top that finds a home. Ankalaev with a front kick to the body and the buzzer sounds to end a somewhat slower than anticipated opening frame. Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Ankalaev.
Round Two – A right hook lands for Blachowicz to open the action. Blachowicz lands a 1-2, Ankalaev responds with a counter right hook and a front kick to the body. A pair of low kicks land for Ankalaev but he eats a right hook from Blachowicz, who drops Ankalaev with a leg kick. Ankalaev dives right in for a takedown, seemingly proving how hard that leg kick truly was. Blachowicz stuffs the takedown but Ankalaev looks recovered and pushes forward. Blachowicz lands another leg kick but Ankalaev lands a 1-2 in response. Blachowicz with yet another low kick and Ankalaev changes levels but Blachowicz stuffs the attempt as Ankalaev clinches him against the fence but the horn sounds to end round number two. Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Blachowicz, 19-19 after two rounds.
Round Three – Blachowicz opens with yet another kick to Ankalaev’s lead leg. Ankalaev drills Blachowicz with an overhand right and pops the jab. Blachowicz lands another low kick and ducks under a left hook attempt from Ankalaev. Blachowicz jabs, as does Ankalaev and a leg kick lands for the Russian contender. Blachowicz is destroying Ankalaev’s lead leg with these low kicks and Ankalaev is bouncing on one leg at times and dives in for a takedown but the former champion holds his balance and Ankalaev clinches him against the fence. Blachowicz powers off the cage and circles back to the center of the octagon. Ankalaev clinches Blachowicz once again and this time he trips Blachowicz to the mat but the buzzer quickly sounds and we’re headed to championship rounds. Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Blachowicz, 29-28 Blachowicz after three rounds.
Round Four – Ankalaev clinches the second the round begins and Blachowicz is once again stuck against the cage. Ankalaev lands a knee to the body but Blachowicz powers off the fence. Ankalaev explodes out of nowhere and dumps Blachowicz on the mat and ends up in top control with over three-minutes to work. Blachowicz rolls and Ankalaev gets the back and looks for the choke but Blachowicz defends well for the time being. Blachowicz rolls back to his back to avoid any choke attempts but Ankalaev is relentless with the pressure and ground-and-pound. Ankalaev stands over Blachowicz and lands some heavy shots before kicking at the legs of Blachowicz for the final few seconds of the round and this one is headed to the fifth and final round. Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Ankalaev, 38-38 after four rounds.
Round Five – Blachowicz dives in for a takedown of his own to begin the final frame but Ankalaev cracks him with an uppercut and ends up in top control with almost the entire five-minutes to work with. Blachowicz needs to get off his back or he’s in for a long round and perhaps the loss. Ankalaev doesn’t do much damage for the first minute-or-so whilst on top but he steps over and gets side control. Blachowicz rolls to his side, Ankalaev continues his relentless pressure and starts unloading some heavy shots from the top as the final minute of the round and bout approaches. Ankalaev has mount and starts landing some slicing elbows and this is a massive round for him, could very well even be a 10-8 in Ankalaev’s favor. Ankalaev continues the shots from the top and the horn sounds to send this one to the judge’s scorecards. Fightful scores this round 10-8 to Ankalaev, 48-46 to Ankalaev overall.

Paddy Pimblett vs. Jared Gordon
Round One – Pimblett opens the action with a low kick. Pimblett fires off a 1-2 then pops the jab. A head kick is blocked by Gordon but Pimblett lands a straight left but Gordon counters with a big right hook that finds a home. Gordon lands a left hook and Pimblett retreats for a moment and it looks like he didn’t quite like that shot from Gordon. Pimblett lands a low kick then misses a switch kick back up top. Gordon lands a kick to Pimblett’s lead leg, then another, and Pimblett lands one of his own. Gordon cracks Pimblett with another left hook and Gordon has seemingly found the range for his left hand. An overhand right lands for Gordon but Pimblett lands a pair of thunderous calf kicks and lets off a three-piece combination that partially lands. Pimblett lands another lead leg kick as his corner yells for him to start tucking his chin to avoid those overhands from Gordon. Pimblett lands a 1-2 then a high kick and another. Gordon throws a kick to the body but Pimblett catches it and spins Gordon around. Gordon goes back to the well and continues to find a home for those left hands but Pimblett lands yet another low kick followed by another 1-2. Pimblett lands a straight left and Gordon slips then grabs a leg but Pimblett shoves Gordon back. Pimblett with another low kick and dives for a takedown and gets it but Gordon scrambles and ends up on top with about 30-seconds to work. Gordon isn’t able to land much from the top but Pimblett lands a slicing elbow from the bottom and the horn sounds to end the opening frame. Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Pimblett.
Round Two – Pimblett opens the round with a jab. Pimblett lands a low kick, as does Gordon, and Pimblett lands a high kick, then a side kick to the body. Pimblett with a front kick to the body, Gordon lands a low kick but whiffs on a left hook. Pimblett lands an uppercut, Gordon with another low kick and he checks a leg kick attempt from Pimblett. Gordon lands a 1-2, Pimblett backs up to the fence but fights himself off of it with a right hook then a left hook to the body as Gordon clinches. Pimblett locks in a bulldog choke as Gordon drags him to the mat but Gordon escapes as Pimblett gets back up to his feet. Gordon remains clinched against Pimblett along the fence as Pimblett looks to break free. Gordon rocks Pimblett with a right hook but Pimblett gets off the fence and circles back to the center of the octagon. Pimblett with a 1-2, then a right hook as Gordon lands a low kick. Pimblett lands an uppercut and Gordon clinches Pimblett against the fence. Pimblett lands an elbow to the side of Gordon’s head and Gordon lands a few knees to Pimblett’s thighs as we approach the final minute of the round. Pimblett shoves Gordon back and unloads a 1-2, then a kick to the body, then another 1-2 and Gordon lands a straight left but referee, Herb Dean calls for a pause in the action as it appears that Pimblett poked Gordon in the eye. Dean tells Pimblett that this is his only warning and Gordon gives the OK to get this one back underway. Pimblett lets off a wild comibation, most of which lands, Gordon doesn’t like it and covers up, Pimblett lands a right hook and the horn sounds to send this one to the third and final round. Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Pimblett, 20-18 to Pimblett after two rounds.
Round Three – Pimblett lands a low kick to begin the third and final round. Gordon dives in for a double leg, Pimblett backs up to the fence and Gordon dumps Pimblett face-first into the mat. Pimblett gets back to a knee, then stands up but Gordon stays latched on and lands a knee to the side. Gordon lands a knee to the back of Pimblett’s leg, then another and looks for the trip but Pimblett defends well for the time being. Gordon remains clinched, Pimblett sprawls and avoids a takedown for the moment and Pimblett lands a couple of elbows to the side of Gordon’s head followed by a pair of knees to Gordon’s mid-section. Referee, Herb Dean warns Gordon to work or he’ll separate them. Pimblett’s finally able to get himself off the fence but Gordon clinches right back up and has Pimblett back up against the fence, which gets a quick warning from Dean once again. Gordon trips Pimblett to the mat and gets the back but he gets too high and Pimblett scrambles back to his feet and Pimblett now has partial back control with about 30-seconds to go in the fight. Pimblett lands a few punches to the side of Gordon’s head and trips Gordon to the mat but Gordon pops back to his feet and Pimblett leaps on Gordon’s back at the horn and this one is headed to the judge’s scorecards for the first time all night. Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Gordon, 29-28 Pimblett overall.

Santiago Ponzinibbio vs. Alex Morono
Round One – Morono lands an overhand right to start. Ponzinibbio with a low kick and a straight left to the body. Another low kick lands for Ponzinibbio, who follows it up with a straight left. Morono’s right hook finds a home, as does another leg kick for Ponzinibbio. A right hook to the body lands for Ponzinibbio, as does yet another low kick. Morono lands a 1-2, then a side kick to the body, followed by a right hook that busts open Ponzinibbio’s eye and the Argentine contender is leaking from the corner of his left eye. Morono lands a wild spinning back-fist and Ponzinibbio is down! Morono rushes down and starts landing ground-and-pound, Ponzinibbio sprawls and is saved by the bell! Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Morono.
Round Two – Ponzinibbio lands a 1-2 to start the action in round number two. Ponzinibbio lands a left hook to the body but Morono drops Ponzinibbio with a right hook. Ponzinibbio pops right back up to his feet and lands a right hook. Ponzinibbio lands a straight left, then another and Morono whiffs on a spinning back kick attempt. Morono pops the jab, Ponzinibbio rips a left hook to the body, then lands a straight left to Morono’s mid-section, then another. Morono continues to work the jab, Ponzinibbio responds with a 1-2, then another straight left to the body. Morono fires off a 1-2 of his own but eats a left hook from Ponzinibbio and the horn sounds to end round number two. Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Ponzinibbio, 19-19 after two rounds.
Round Three – Ponzinibbio lands a 1-2 to start the third and final round. Morono lands a Superman punch out of nowhere and Ponzinibbio is hurt but keeps pushing forward but his left eye is a mess and is leaking pretty badly. Ponzinibbio absolutely crushes Morono with a right hook and Morono is out! What a finish by Santiago Ponzinibbio!

(#10) Darren Till vs. (#14) Dricus Du Plessis
Round One – Till opens the action with a left hook. Du Plessis shoots and gets an early takedown and immediately gets Till’s back. Till crawls to the fence but Du Plessis starts landing a ton of left hands to the side of the head and Till is in trouble. Till gets to a knee, Du Plessis doesn’t stop landing shots but Till tells the referee he’s fine and it does look like the majority of these shots did hit Till’s hand on the side of his head. Du Plessis starts landing some knees to the body and now he’s landing to the side of the head as Till stands up. Du Plessis refuses to stop and he’s thrown about 100 shots to both sides of Till’s head but Till finally stands up and spins back forward but Du Plessis dumps Till right back down to the mat and again gets Till’s back. Till spins, Du Plessis locks in the choke but Till defends and gets out of danger for the moment. Du Plessis falls to his own back with about 90-seconds to go and continues to look for the choke as a graphic pops up on the broadcast that shows Du Plessis has out-landed Till 60-0…yes, you read that right. Till scrambles and somehow jumps right back to his feet and looks for a choke, Du Plessis scrambles back to his feet but Till dumps Du Plessis on his back and starts unloading shots but Du Plessis trips Till backwards and lands on top but the horn sounds to end an absolutely wild opening round. Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Du Plessis.
Round Two – Till’s left eye is massively swollen but he gets off the stool with a smile on his face and here we go. Till lands a 1-2, then pops the jab and Du Plessis looks like he may be a little gassed after his flurry for the first three-or-so minutes of round number one. Till lands a left hook, then a straight right and a low kick. Till cracks Du Plessis with a right hook and a step-in knee to the chin but Du Plessis shoots for a double leg and gets Till to the mat despite looking wobbled Till scrambles and gets back to his feet, where he lands a front kick to the body. Till lands an elbow, then a straight left and a kick to the body as Du Plessis goes for a wild Superman punch after bouncing off the fence but completely misses. Another left lands for Till, then a 1-2, and another elbow. Du Plessis dives for a takedown and gets Till to the mat yet again. Du Plessis looks like he’s using this position to recover but gets to side control but Till scrambles and both guys go for a leg lock. Du Plessis has a leg lock tight but Till keeps rolling and the buzzer sounds to end another wild round. Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Till and 19-19 after two rounds.
Round Three – An embrace from both competitors starts off the third and final round, the first-time tonight that we’ll be going to the final frame. Both men start swinging and neither seem to care much about defense here in the final round. Du Plessis lands a kick to the body but Till says it was low and referee, Mark Smith stops the bout but only briefly as Till recovers and this one is quickly back underway. Du Plessis dives right in for a takedown and immediately gets the back. Du Plessis locks in a rear-naked choke and Till quickly taps! What a finish by Dricus Du Plessis!

(#9) Bryce Mitchell vs. (#14) Ilia Topuria
Round One – Mitchell opens with a side kick to the body. Topuria lands a calf kick, a switch kick to the midsection lands for Mitchell, who changes levels but Topuria shoves him back to stop the attempt. Topuria works the jab then lands a straight right then a right hook and a 2-3. A head kick partially lands for Mitchell and he dives in for a single leg but Topuria stays upright and walks back to the fence but Mitchell stays clinched. Mitchell trips Topuria to a knee but Topuria pops right back up and breaks free from the clinch. Topuria cracks Mitchell with a straight right but whiffs on a massive left hook and slips but gets right back up to his feet. Mitchell lands a perfectly timed takedown and gets Topuria on his back with about a minute to work. Mitchell gets half guard and lifts to create some separation for a few shots of ground and pound but nothing of consequence lands and the horn sounds to end an entertaining opening frame. Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Topuria.
Round Two – A 2-3 lands for Topuria to start. Mitchell shoots for a takedown but Topuria sprawls and shoves Mitchell back. Mitchell goes for another takedown but Topuria shoves him back yet again. Mitchell pushes forward and lands a 1-2 but Topuria drills Mitchell with a 2-3 and Mitchell is down, Topuria smells (and quite literally sees) blood and rushes forward. Mitchell pops back up but Topuria shoves Mitchell to the mat and starts unloading heavy shots from the top, Mitchell kicks Topuria backward but Topuria keeps the pressure and looks for an arm triangle and Mitchell has no choice but to tap! What a sequence and what a finish by Ilia Topuria!
